Putting a note through someone's letter box

Who has done this to buy a car?

I recently had a drive around an area that I want to move to,  nice houses, big gardens, good school catchment etc, and noticed a little red s2 gti looking very sorry for itself on someone's drive.
I went back later in my own mk1 and knocked the door with a view to getting the poor thing as another project.
No one home so I've left a note With my number
Seems a huge shame to see it looking so neglected.

Non sunroof, red, x reg, 90% complete.

How many folks here have been successful in buying a mk1 this way.?

Bought a 1983 Driver by knocking on the door of a house, the car had been sat for 8 years, after 3 years of knocking every 6 months or so i was told i could have it for a bargain price of £50

That's what I like to hear.  This one hasn't been used for 6 years (tax up in 2008), I doubt I would get it that cheap though.
Will give it a couple of weeks and try knocking again if I don't hear from them.

Determination and patience is what you need & hopefully it'll pay off for you?? i think i got mine cheap before things like good old Ebay was around,it's all too easy for people to get a feel for a better value on things, if i go back around 8-10 years ago i was given (free) another Mk1, the woman was going to scrap it-its still going strong today, there is a pic on here of it HAV 802Y
good luck with your door knocking, they can only say yes or no  :-)

I've just bought a house that way and bought a mk1 scirocco storm a few years back the same way. They both commented about the fact it was hand written as they usually chuck letters in the bin. It's definitely worth doing.

God luck.

I had a friend who was a successful property agent once.
We both lived in a very, very up market Village in Hampshire, on a river and not far from the M3 and London (one hour)

As an experiment he wrote a hand written letter using real ink to ten properties and on top quality paper.
Hand addressed and popped them through the letter box.

He left a fake name and a real P.O Box number thinking that no one would reply.
Well guess?

Seven replied ask how much was he willing to offer.
Two people that he did NOT write to, wrote to him asking how much he was willing to pay for their House.

I know that four owners kept writing for months even though he wrote back saying he'd changed his mind or he had bought something else.

He had no plans at the start to buy any but ended up buying two and made a small fortune in the end!
These were by no means cheap properties but it just goes to show what you can get if you do it write.

Not suggesting for one minute you go running for the parchment paper, quill and ink pot every time you see a MK1 in someones drive way!
