Mk1 on Pistonheads for £23k

looks like a lovely example, prices are definitely on the rise for genuine original cars.

Anyone on here own it? Looks like a familiar reg number.

Annoys me when they put "never been used in the wet" - how come the MOT history shows advisories for corroded suspension and brake components then ?

Lovely looking Mk1 GTI, great history etc…
But it all comes down to price at the end of the day as always.

This has got to be near the high end but 24k does seem rather a lot don't you think?  O_o

Wow.. lots of money! RichardHall perhaps you should up your sweet motor by a few £ 's.. my cabby must be worth a few £ if that's original, LCD not pixilated etc.. I still got original paint, plates, PDI sheet, manuals etc. How do we compare?? I mean value your car or a car??

Just have! Got my agreed value increased by 50% , wasn't really bothered as I am never going to sell it, but a friend having his Mk2 written off 2mins after driving it away from the car restorers made me think again.

Prices are getting seriously silly this year in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.

As some of you know I've been following the markets here for over nine years. Keeping records but the increases in the last three years just aren't reflected in the U.K. market strangely.

I think it's partly because we are a small Country and there being snapped up by traders in Germany.

Various tin tops I could have picked up for £1,000 to £1,500 two to three years ago are back on the market for £3,500 to more than £5,000 and nothing done to them.

GTI's will always make a premium but already as spring is heading our way I'm seeing an unseasonal hike in the price of Cabby's. In the region of +30%. Now this I've not seen before.

Ok these are just adverts so who knows if they will sell or not.

Mine will be 27 this year and there's not another Cabby in the world with my spec. Going by what's being offered at the moment I've doubled my money in five years of ownership. Although that's not why I bought it!

Dean I think it's fairly simple.

The icon of modern motoring is the Golf GTI and all tin top prices are hanging onto the coast tales of it.

Will the Cabby ever be an equal? 🤔
No.

But keep them completely original and they will have there day for a short time just before and after there 50th birthday.

Now whether I still have one or will be around to see it is another matter.

By the way.
You always ask really good questions, so just a thought but sometimes keep the post open for all to have their say.

At the end of the day, it's only how I see it! 🤔 😂 👍

Pure accident, driving down the road from the restorers and a Polo came out if a side street at 40mph and took the whole front of the Golf out.

He is devastated, but was on agreed value and once insurance is sorted he wants a MK1
