Newbie Help

I have always loved mk1 golfs and have decided to buy one. I have found one on ebay that I have fallen in love with, but don't really know if the price is fair. It is a J reg gti convertible, is this the best one to go for as my first? Any advice would be great. Thank you x

I am pretty sure that is Tian's old car.
Tian was for several years on the clubs committee and did a lot of the clubs graphics, calendars etc.
Since he sold his car, 18 months ago he does not come on here any more.

Take a look at his for sale thread - he always looked after it, so probably still a good motor.

That  has got to be the same one! Is the money that they are asking fair? Is this the best one to go for as a first? I was going to try and look at it tomorrow, as not far from me. 

It looks a fair price - no harm in offering less though !
So it is worth what you are prepared to pay for it in the end, remember it is 22 years old so will need some work.

If you can get it for that money or close to it I'd say that's a good buy!  

But then I am a sucker for white Cabrio's (look left).
However where I live they tend to cost most because there's not so many.
Not a fan of the red interior but to each their own but for your first MK1 it's a cracker in my opinion.

As Ade said, it's worth what your willing to pay and that's all that matters.

Many thanks. It is lovely and I've looked at 3 now and keep coming back to this one. There is no known work that needs doing on the car at the moment, so that's a big plus! It also looks like it's been well looked after throughout, so starting to get excited now!! Just keeping fingers crossed I win the auction!

Have a look through the cars for sale section on here also... Might see something else that tempts the eye.

I can only 'Ditto' that!
I've got it in my 'Watch List' but don't panic, I'm not buying it.  
I'm excited for you mate and keeping everything crossed for you.

But on the flip side just in case you don't win.
Especially with cars, "If it's not meant to be, then it's just not meant to be!"
Move on, you'll get the right one.    

Well I shot myself in the foot by getting too excited. Can't now get access to The money to buy the car so will now wait until I have the money in my hand before I start looking in future. Many thanks to you all for your help and once I'm ready to buy again, I'm sure I'll be on to bug you
