I appreciate what your saying but I can't just throw away £1400. The car now owes me £2600
Ive been working till 10 every evening grinding metal and rust away to then seal up with epoxy primer. I've managed to get alot of rust out. I don't really have much choice
I plan to keep the car forever to be hounest, I want to get it to a level where it will last me atleast ten years. Then maybe if strip it all down and have it dipped then, I don't have £2000 spare to have it dipped and e coated now
I was lucky enough to spend £1400 from my savings as I'm supposed to be saving for a mortgage
I did think about scrapping it but everyone said keep it. So I've just spent £600 on panels and about to spend more

Out of interest - all the romantics that said keep it - have they ever attempted such a project themselves? or have they ever done any proper metal work repairs to a body shell to realise just what a horrible, dirty, painful, expensive job it can be? - Remember talk is cheap.Taylor Clarke said

Out of interest I've got a not so rotten shell which I've kept for the last 7 years in the dry merely because its my other car's younger brother. I'm not sure whether I'll ever get round to doing it and being a romantic myself would hate to see it scrapped after hanging on to it for so long. I was thinking rather than you throwing a load of effort at the one you've got would you be interested in mine?

Its just a rolling shell now and the non sunroof roof skin I bought has been earmarked for another project. I do have a factory sunroof roof skin for it instead.

A lot of tin top Mk1's from new only lasted 10 years before rust set in and they was scrapped!
At least if you have done the work yourself you know it's done right this time.

I will get pics up as soon as I can, I need to get the time to start a proper write up and pictures, but just soo busy on it!!
So far, she's had new inner wings, new scuttle and a posts up to roof, new front panel, many plates made and a complete new a post!!!
I've then spent an insane amount of hours grinding rust and getting the bay to an absolute immaculate level before spraying with epoxy primer, been doing it bit by bit in my evenings

Smoothed bulk head, purely for making it easier to wash and keep clean. Flyby wire throttle, wiring on the inner wing, custom pedal box etc, I don't like smoothed bays but I want mine to look clean and not cluttered
Battery delete (in boot)
Top fill rad
Washer bottle in boot
I've got two weeks over Christmas and my manager has let me spray it, hopefully get it painted for then
