MOT failure due to braided break hoses

Post

Hi a quick question all comments welcome.

the 1991 cabriolet failed on couple issues one being the braided break hoses are too long and rubbing on the front wheels when on full lock. Garage wants to change front to shorter rubber hoses
the guy I bought the car from (honest chap) says back are braided and doesn't think you can mix rubber on front braided in back. Also if clip the front hoses onto the strut then shouldn't re fail.

any thoughts please and what is acceptable means of clipping on?

thanks

If you've got original front struts there should be (from memory) tabs sticking out of the side at right angles. In these tabs are slots where a rubber grommet sits, and the hose should run through this to keep it in place.

You can cable tie to this, as above, although I've known some testers be funny about this.

But you can certainly mix braided/non braided front to rear, although personally I wouldn't mix on the same axle.
