Might be worth 'unwrapping' your car today.

Post

I am quite lucky having a nice dry garage on the side of my house to keep my Golf in.  Over the past month it's been wrapped up in duvets - nice and snug.
But even here, with the temperature changing from -5 deg yesterday to +10 this morning the car was quite damp, so I have opened up the front and back garage  doors to get some air blowing through to even things out.

might be worth checking yours if you aren't fortunate enough to have a dehumidifier.

Good shout Richard, coming home this morning at 0330 and the temp was 10 degrees ??

10 degrees in the middle of the night in Jan in Scotland, that's warmer than mid afternoon in July usually 😳

Thsts why the wee Kampa Dampbusters are a great buy for inside the cars.

Happy New Year hope it's a healthy one 😄

Yes good shout Richard.

Its happened twice this winter so far. From a cold spell into a mild damp spell, the damp in the still air condensates on anything cold.

I would never cover a car in an unheated garage due to this phenomenon as it causes micro blisters in the paint where the cover traps the moisture.

I'm lucky, i have a Cair o port from Hamiltons which not only keeps an air flow moving around the vehicle inside and out which stops the condensation forming but should something fall over in the garage then it bounces off the cover before getting near the car! - Yes, I am that clumsy!   :$

That looks great, like a life support machine.  do they cost much to keep running?

edit:  just looked at their site and the frame looks too big to fit in my garage when the door is opened up as its too tall.  Looked a reasonable price though.

Massbad69  I have just looked at your post showing these in your Sporline, look really useful, In next village we have a huge Camping &Caravan centre, will pop along tomorrow to see if they have any rather than wait for ebay delivery.

Guys I've real garage envy now I've just got a rented council garage, RichardHall I've got 4 of those damp busters that Massbad69 talks about in my garage also 2 smaller ones in the car I can't rate them highly enough, I got mine from eBay with the bag of crystals included only took 2 days to deliver.

It's amazing how much water the crystals get out the air.
My mates all have them in their classics and also my mate in his large RV.

For a tenner plus the crystals it's cheap indurance for the cars.

Damp bags are great. Surprising how much water can be absorbed by such a small bag.  Nights are getting shorter which must mean it's nearly summer!!!!!

Good typo :'(

Get mine from the cheap shops 2.50 for the large ones with a spare bag of crystals

I had an Air chamber before this one and they quoted a running cost of £20 per year running two small computer type fans.

This one has another fan so will be dearer but I only run it when I think it  needs it.

My car lived in a council type garage in a block for 6 years in the air chamber and it saved loads of hassle from the dreaded mill dew and all the other stuff that just seems to appear on a stored car.

I use fleece covers on my two cars but the garages are part of the house and I've shut the doors of with thermal curtains and installed a central hearing radiator so it isn't freezing inside.

These look like such a good idea, and as It appears not that expensive, all I need is a power supply from somewhere.

I use dehumidifiers in my garage. It is quite warm in there and very well sealed but I still collect a gallon of water out of the air every week. Going to look at these tents look good.

I'm going to get a dehumidifier

I've hunted everywhere for a dehumidifier that's not mains operated as I've no power in my garage but no luck 😢
