Is it possible?

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if it possible to fit the mk2 focus RS 2.5T 5 pot with gearbox into the mk1 golf? I know i'm offending alot members asking haha

I guess anything is possible if you want to do it!

It's not a conversion I've seen before - would be a nice one though as a lovely engine!  

When you get into engine swaps which are distantly, or not related to the original engine, then other factors come into play, approximately in this order:

1. Either the entire electrical system of the donor car needs transplanting or a standalone ECU needs to be fitted.
2. Engine mounts need to be fabricated
3. Exhaust manifold and system need to be fabricated
4. Driveshafts need to be custom made, lengthened or shortened
5. Areas of the engine bay such as the firewall, inner wings, front panel, etc need to be altered or fabricated or cut away, for clearance

It would be an interesting engine swap but a lot of fabrication work to achieve.

I guess this is longer than a normal 4 pot which may be the problem, some measuring called for , but yeah, anything is possible

Obviously the focus RS has lots of tricks and gizmo's up its sleeve to control that amount of power and put it down onto the road.. Now I am no expert or even remotely experienced in this topic, but surely that amount of power under the bonnet of a mk1 is going to either torque steer and skit about like a whipped wild horse, or rip the car apart at the seams?… How do you propose to deal with that amount of power in that respect?

As someone once said to me, "Speed costs money… how fast do you want to go?".

You'd also need give plenty of consideration to stopping too…

An exciting proposition though.

I saw something similar years ago in, I think, Performance VW mag. That was a transplant of an RS Cosworth engine into a Mk1 Cabby. Needed 4 wheel drive for the power, and it was a huge job all round, but they did it, so it must be possible.
