If original engine then certainly not original roof liner as it would have been black. It looks a bit of a dogs breakfast to me but maybe I am just a grumpy git.
Ps nice to meet some of you at the weekend and enjoyed the cars.

Ha good to know. Just looks out of place to me. See lots on eBay (as we all do) but this one is either a long way from original or from non GTI base.Roach said
As the seller is a club member then my personal opinion is it does not read right to me on eBay and I would clarify what it started life as (a golf L or Gti etc) but good luck to them.

Maybe a touch ambitious with the value

I got this car in my mid-30's and it very clearly was one of those cars that drove past McDonalds late at night with poor music playing with the whole car shaking.
It was soundproofed throughout it had speakers/woofers everywhere it was like a walking DJ stand.
I did like the shape not sure why Backinblack is questioning its original life was is and always has been a GTI from birth and honestly for me if I had to choose an original engine or original roof liner let me think…… umm engine please.
Oh no the speakers its strange how we all see things differently but hey we all have opinions, truth be told I wouldn't have put any speakers in at all! I hate seeing door cards with football size holes in the fronts so I thought okay I will put my 1970 goodmans in the back limiting the damage to the interior. I wish I had just chucked them in HAHA would have saved me having to put holes in rear door cards.
At the end of the day its opinions feel it is a little harsh but I will take on board your comments ironically all I actually bought the car to restore to original but that didn't happen as you can see and now at the age of 42 I am too old for it looks wise hence I just want something original or less obvious.
I will be gutted to see it go and secretly I am happy to keep!

Now we know you a loving owner and club member and not a ebay ripper offer then might help you get better money for it to the right buyer who will cherish it.
There are much better experts than me on here who can help highlight certain features to help people realise it is a genuine GTI and not a modded base model.
Good luck.

To be honest I did pull out the interior it was in a bad way, and took the body kit off looking at it now obviously school boy errors.
thanks for your help appreciated.

I like the colour, wheels, stance, bumper and grille.
Being fully sound proofed isnt a bad thing either.
For the sake of a carefully sourced (price wise) seats and doorcards you could have a very nice GTI for much less than most others.
I'd rather this than a mars red GTI badged 1.3 driver with all trimmings

It's a proper 90's - 00's modded up mk1. That in itself is worth some Kudos to me.
I'd stick a stereo build back in it and take it out and be proud of the naughties coolness of it.
But that's just me and I'm weird

Too old at 42, Dang, I am 62, and still loving my Cabbie.
The wife doesn't but at least she is content with knowing to whom I am having my affair with. lol…

Bottom of the passenger door is just a vinyl strip it peels off.

Probably worth a picture of the v5 section. No offence meant just no VDO gauges, not black roof lining, no gti interior, and non original steering wheel. Plus missing side trims, spats and other obvious gti parts and clear glass and not all admittedly but lots have green tint glass at this age as were campaign models (worth more money).

So many apps on phones these days quicker to type in the reg, i wouldnt be posting pics of my v5. But if i was asked for a copy as a genuine enquiry i dont see the harm.
And no vdo gagaues on an A plate GTi either they had MFA. To be fare when they are this modified, original bits in side are going to be very short supply.
