Engine noise

Hi Guys

I am hearing a rattling noise from my engine. it only does this when I rev up hard when the car is stationary or if the car is in motion and I am accelerating, mainly on an incline.

Any thoughts on what can be making this noise?

Hey mate,

Try and record it and post a video up - may be able to help you.

Also if you post what engine you have and then we can move it into the relevant section for you

I get a very similar thing on a DX engine, be interested to see what this could be

Rattling under load up a hill could be big end bearings, it was for me many many years ago

Could be pinking. Check the ignition timing; may need retarding a little. 
The Red Rocket! My Mk1 Tdi Build.....

My VAG family:

1982 Mk1, PD130 Tdi, 6 speed, ongoing project, to be my daily driver (one day)!
1983 Mk1, 1.8 Gti, stripped out, ongoing project, track car only.
1990 Mk1 Cabrio, 1.8 8v Turbo, G60 ECU, long term project (17 years so far)!
2008 T5 LWB, 1.9 Tdi, to be converted to camper when I've finished using it as a van!
1999 Audi A4 Avant Quattro, 2.5 Tdi, currently off the road, more work required.
2010 Tiguan R-Line, daily driver.

You were right. I adjusted the timing and the noise stopped.
