dx and dz
Hi , i would like to know is there a difference in bore size between a 1983 golf gti clipper with a dz engine block and a mk1 golf gti sportline 1.8 8v with a dx engine block ,if they are the same then are the cylinder head and inlet manifold the same on both cars .. Thanks Pete

Pete,
according to Haynes, the 1780cc engine (DX) has an 81mm bore. On wikipedia the DZ is claimed to have the same bore and stroke as the DX.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hi,yes it helps a lot as I've swapped blocks over as my original was scored in places but now its up and running in still getting hesitation on accelaration and I've gone through everything it has improved though when I changed the vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold to the dizzy from bout 2-3 mm to 5mm

crankshaft, conrods and pistons, camshaft and head are the same, so i would say the block is probably basically identical
