Doing a service, what parts?

I am teaching the better half how to do a service on her beloved Mk1 Cabby, it's a '92 with a carb fed 1.8.
I am thinking Oil, oil filter, plugs and leads. I would like to know what parts I should buy and if I've missed any other bits that are worth doing whilst I'm at it.
Cheers

Tot it all up on VW Heritage and see what the cost comes to, you may find that club discount covers a good portion of your membership fee

So now I'll do Oil and filter, air filter, plugs, leads and fuel filter. I am after actual part numbers though to be honest. I always get so many options when searching for stuff
As for dizzy and rotor arm, not something I've done before so probably leave it, unless it's easy?

As for going straight to VW Heritage for parts…. it pays to shop around. AVS Spares, GSF and Euro Car Parts are all good.

Dizzy cap and rotor arm are nice and simple, cap has 2 metal clips and the rotor arm's concealed under the cap and just pulls off. They both only go back on a certain way so fairly fool proof. You'll probably get away with cleaning up the contacts in the cap and the tip of the rotor arm though.

Ditto on the shop around although VWH will show original part numbers to help you search elsewhere.
Also look on here for part numbers - partsbase.org

If you change the Dizzy cap (which is a very good idea).
Make sure your other half changes the leads over one at a time!
They must go on the new cap in the very same place they came off the old and in turn go to the very same cylinder.
Or you will mess up the firing order of the cylinders.
Just take your time, do one lead at a time and it's easy!

No doubt. She loves to take a photo and when I say 'teaching' her how to do it what I actually mean is 'I' will be doing it

Spent an hour or so with the Golf this afternoon before the better half goes to a gig, photos to follow.
Had a slight issue though, I got the parts from GSF, plugs and leads were fine, dizzy cap and arm on the other hand were not. Cap would not fit properly, I thought I had it on but upon starting the car the clips came of, thought it was a one of, tried again but to no avail. It does not want to fit snugly and stay put.
Could someone please point us in the right direction of the correct dizzy cap and arm for a '92 'carb fed 1.8 engine

It looks similar, if a little smaller that the one that is currently fitted.
This is the other type listed: http://www.gsfcarparts.com/921vg0110
Will it just be a case of one or the other?

Also found a little plastic disc type thing under the dizzy cap, it was brittle and broke as I removed it. Is it necessary, if so, where can I get it?
