Clipper struggling to start (choke?)

Post

Hi all - hoping someone will know / have experienced the same issue as me…

When I start the car up (with a few pumps on the gas) it fires up fine then drops the revs and cuts out after a couple of seconds. If I repeat this process a couple of times it then runs fine.
If it doesn't cut out first time, it does as soon as I rev it. Sounds like it's struggling when I do rev it, then cuts out.

Once this is over and done with, it works totally fine for the rest of the day.

So far, I've changed most of the pipes as I thought it would be an air intake issue but doesn't seem to have fixed it. I wondered if it was something to do with the auto choke but not 100% sure…

Any wisdom would be hugely appreciated.

Happy to do a video to support this if it helps :)Thanks…Mike.

mine is the same always starts cold but i need to keep the revs above 2000 for like 5 minutes until it ticks over fine
i have fitted a manual choke but i try to only use that in winter

Sounds like the same thing! So you never worked out a way to fix it? Keeping revs does the job but would like to fix the issue so I don't have to do it.

Or did the manual choke fix it?

no haven't looked too much into it. the choke helps in the winter but you still need to warm it up for 5 minutes

ijs1985 - on further investigation I think it's a carb issue….have ordered a weber conversion, will let you know how I get on!
