Car written off - what to do??

Post

I feel so sad 😭 Today my car got hit from behind and the insurance broker has already suggested they will write it off due to age - advice welcome as I've never been in this situation before let alone with a classic. The damage is limited to rear bumper, boot, wheel arch (body kit) rear panel, exhaust & the drivers seat broke with impact.

Is it worth getting it back from them and repairing it all?? The roof, engine and wheels are all in mint condition!!

Utterly gutted injured and frustrated 😭😭

Sorry to hear that dude, just be thankful that no one was injured!

I would definitely buy it back if I was you as the insurnace companies don't know how valuable the parts for Mk1's can be!

How much are they offering it to you for? It might be worth buying it back and breaking it for cash if it's u repairable?

Mk1 1983 Helios Blue GTI Engineering

Gutted to read this, bit at least it's your car, and not you that's broken.
Take your time making the decision, do the research on the numbers etc.
Good luck..

They haven't come to me with figures yet but have taken car into storage. I just don't have a clue as to what they will offer as I don't really know myself what's she's worth - but I do know what I've spent on her in the last 1.75 years! So lucky there was no one in front of me as it would have been so much worse. I was really quite surprised how little damage there was in comparison to the brand new fiat 500 which was quite a mess!!

Yeah just buy it back and take the payout

Modern cars often look worse than their predecessors because the crumple zones work as they are designed to do.

but anyway, getting back to the topic, good luck once again for a good outcome to a bad situation.

Happened to me couple years ago, definitely buy it back it's usually a small percentage of the eventual payout figure (paid £50 for mine…. )

I'd start collecting ads of similar cars to yours to show current market value, they'll obviously lowball you so you'll want to dispute it.

Hopefully they won't Cat B it like mine!
