Advice on expected power output

Post

Hi all,

I recently got my car dynoed and was slightly disappointed with the results considering the engine its running. I want some advice as to next steps, what to check as to why the possible poor performance or if indeed this is the expected output from the engine.

Engine:
2l 16v - 6A bottom end and KR head. Rebuilt around 7k ago, new pistons.
Ported and polished head.
KR Cams
Twin Dellorto 40's
4-1 manifold
2.5" jetex exhaust
Facet fuel pump and filter kings regulator.

I would expect around 150bhp, is this unreasonable? However on readout I got 115bhp with a good power curve and strong line.

Car runs fine no issues, is it worth getting a compression test done? Is it fueling, twin 40's too small?

am hopefully going to get mine rolling roaded soon, am running a very simlar set up but still on the stock intake  not twin carbs.
2l abf block
kr head with aggressive cam
4-1
jetex 2.5 race exhaust.

i would expect it to be running a bit more the that. but there is a different between BHP at the wheels rather then BHP at the fly.  but some one more knowledgable will be able to give you a better answer .

the only thing i could think of would be the jetting on the carbs.

No carb expert but dosnt a 40mm carb actually have a throat that is something less than 40mm. So thinking they may actually be too small for max power on a 2 ltr engine.

Thanks chaps.

abfmk1  bfmk1 yes, you might be right here. Following the dyno the chap who did it said that he was surprised the workshop wasnt full of fumes and thought that the car was to lean which might explain a fueling issue. Its running 38mm chokes I need to check the other size jets.
