Cabriolet Leaking

Hi
I'm looking on advice on where to start to stop a leak on my golf. It leaks at the front onto both seats. The leak looks like it comes from near the roof handle area on both sides. Could it be that the windscreen to roof seal has perished during its life?

its prob down to the roof foam gaskets, they perish over time and its a common thing, pm chortle he may have a set

Mine used to leak through the drivers roof handle. When I dug deeper I found that the rubber seal along the top of the windscreen had come away slightly on the drivers side. Some black silicone later and no more leaks.

Worth a try for a cheap DIY fix.

Sounds like the rubber/gasket on the roof seal, had the same problem with an old triumph with wet floors, only on the triumph the water ran through the window frame and down the "a" post (took months to realise how water was getting in!)

You can try vwheritage or pt chortle on here, he the best man for this stuff, there's also a roof replacement guide on here, worth a read as it shows the gasket and what to do with sealing

Ok
Generally it's the foam gasket seals that go.

Plus as Bob points out re applying silicone to the header seal often helps.
You need to check also how far the header on the frame sits against the seal. So adjusting the J hooks to pull in tighter usually helps.
I have plenty if seals here and can e mail a fitting guide also.
Just send me a message here.

Hi Cortle

I am about to refit new headliner, padding bag and sonneland roof and didn't realise the foam seal was required. Do you have a set and how much is the full set please.

Regards

Graeme

I bought a roll of double sides sticky foam which they use for double glazed windows from ebay which I used on my car.
I'll find out the size if any good to anyone?

Sorry to hijack thread but have a similar issue and have fitted new gaskets etc. I have noticed though that the rubber seal on the roof where the glass of the door presses against especially at the front, does not create a very good seal between the glass and seal. It's not overly bad but just enough to let a little water in. I have made sure the glass is adjusted up enough before anyone asks. I don't think these seals are available new anymore and can see that with time these will deform and could contribute to water ingress.
I've had a thought after watching one of the wheeler dealer episodes,  wasn't the golf one but Ed used some rubber tubing, bit like fuel line to pack a seal out on a door by sliding it up through the seal. It did work and I can see that it might work for us. Chortle have you done this before and what are your thoughts?

Not had a message from you mate.

Daniel
Ok you can double the foam gasket seals at the front to lower the seal against the glass.

I was going to say take the door card off and use the adjuster with the mechanism to raise the glass slightly.

Did you reapply the sealant before you replaced the seals?

Have you adjusted the J hooks at the front to pull the header in tighter against the header seal?

Have you reapplied sealant to the front header seal especially the knuckle area outer edges?

All leaking points.

Cheers
