It sounds like the pin is in the right place if the door sits right when shut so I'd mark the position of the catch with masking tape or a permenant marker, then slightly slacken off the allen head nuts that hold the catch. You need enough resistance for the catch to stay in it's position without dropping, then gently close the door which will move the catch to it's new position. Gently open the door and retighten the allen bolts.
It might take a few goes to get it right but that should sort it.

rear doors will usually have ok hinges, and 5 door ones last longer than 3 due to them beign lighter. its just the pins are proper tight in the door! i had to put mine in a vice to get them out proper nightmare.
id assuem cabby hinges are the same yes, but probably just as worn. the early mk1 i think had different hinge design?

and was just wondering if anyone has had success removing the bush from the new mk2 hinge and fitting it to the old, rather than going down the drilling/tapping route and fitting the new hinge to the car?
I'm assuming it's the wear in the bush that causes the door to drop?
