screeching rad fan

hi everyone
i own a 1.8 8v gti. im not very technically minded and i was wondering if anyone could help me. whenever the radiator fan comes on it makes a horrible high pitched screeching noise, anyone had this problem or know of a solution??

Mine rumbles loudly which I think is a worn bearing.  You could have a similar problem.  Got a new motor from GSF (?45) but it had a "universal" three pin connecter which they said was the only one they supplied.  Went to VW but they were ?190 so went down the second had route.  

Will be trying to swap the fins over this weekend as a couple had snapped

might be catching on rad/shroud. next time it comes on grab the fan and wiggle it, take care not to catch ya fingers tho

My cars been in storage for the last 4 years and my daily driver decided to die so i thought it was time to get my golf back on the road. I am still having this problem with the fan screeching.

Once the fan comes on if I pull the plug out and then plug it back in the screeching stops. It is only when it first comes on. Anyone got any more ideas?

sounds liek the fan is duff, you might fix it just by lubing the bearings if you can get to them
