HELP!!! This car is ruining my life!

If battery is low, the starter wont go, might click on the solenoid, but wont wind it over  :?

Charge it up and have another go, you stand a chance of getting it to start now you put the plug back on the coil

I really really hope so :)  But when it was connected I still wasn't getting a spark or anything…anyway fingers crossed.  If it was literally just that I will feel an absolute muppet (but a muppet with a little more knowledge than before!).
Cheers Gammy

Aaaaw thanks Chris.  Yeah it is.  I wouldn't take it to a garage usually as I don't trust them, but even if I would…I couldn't!lol  Asked a garage literally 30 seconds from mine if anyone could just pop over to have a quick look…answer was no because the car wasn't at their garage.  It'll be something stupid…hopefully just a flattened battery now :)

yeah just disconnect the tci plug and check the earth and ign live wires with your multimeter, then set it to continuity mode and check both ends of the other wires i mention from tci to coil and dizzy to make sure non of them have snapped somewhere along the way

Thanks John.

Well I've got to go into town to pick up a parcel with (hopefully) the right dizzy in…so that will tick that one off.  Need to get a battery for my meter as I've never used the thing and then that can all be checked.  Car battery was fully charged last night so it's definitely not that.  Dizzy cap changed, sparks all changed so it's none of them.  Fingers crossed for the new dizzy!!!

cool, if that doesnt help i can only thingk that you have some damage to the wiring from coil to tci/dizzy. its actually dead easy to rtemove the lot from the car, its only connected to dizzy, coil and battery earth! what you do is pop the spade out of that double plug and it all comes right off. id unwrap it end to end and peel back both boots to double check there are no breaks in any of the wires.

look closely at your loom for any insulating tape, this is big warning flag of bodgyness! ive never yet unwrapped a bit of loom tape to find a lovely neat repair underneath

Right…on the way up. Changed dizzy for the right one n now have a spark. But still a non-starter!! I can smell petrol on the sparks so assume it's not fuel supply…but then spark plus fuel equals ignition surely so still scratching my head :(

if its flooded you'll have to let the fuel clear from the bores before it'll go again, whip the plugs out disable fuel pump and the coil (remove black wires) then crank it over to blow the fuel out the bores. then clean the spark plugs and let them dry.

give it a few hours then come back and try again :)

double check you got the rotor arm lined up to TDC when the cam and crank are, as it could be all over the shop now you have changed the dizzy twice. then once its deffo all at tdc put spark lead #1 where the rotor arm is pointing and fit the rest 1342 clockwise.

that shoudl be close enough to fire it, after that just a case of tweak ign timign with a gun and you're all done

Well I replaced the dizzy when it was at tdc so that should be all fine. Will do the rest (except I don't have the tools for ignition timing) and pray during the wait :)

Aaaaaaaaargh so close!!!  She started trying to turn and then stopped…and then I couldn't get close again.  So thought maybe still a little flooded.  Left it another hour or so (after repeating the steps of turning without coil, pump etc) and just did exactly the same.  Any ideas?  Engine still flooded?

wonder if the spark is weak, how are your leads, cap and arm looking? sparkies good and gapped properly?

All looks good.  Leads are about 2 months old, cap, arm n sparks brand new.  Putting sparks in finger tight and then about a quarter of a turn.  It just seems strange to me that it tries to start on the first turn and then after that won't try again (if that makes sense).

(Thank you for your patience and persistence on this one…I owe you many a pint!!!)

righto, could just be it keeps flooding then! i would disconnect the plug for the 5th injector for now. it might be a case of being patient though! when my mate flooded his carby we worked on it for ages, in the end the best fix was to just leave the plugs out and step away from it for a few hours

Well I gave it a quick attempt at a start and exactly the same thing!  But now it's raining so can't do a thing :(  When you say remove the plug, do you mean just take the electrical connection off, and then (after the patient waiting) start it without it?

I don't know whether it'll be related/cause.  The temperature gauge has started doing it's thing again where it just shoots straight up to max!  Would this then send a signal to cut the engine?

no i mean have the plugs out of the head and leave them somewhere so they can fully dry :)

the temp wire wont effect the engine, just means the wire is shorting to earth somewhere or your sensor is dodgy :)

just to clarify, disconnect the 5th injector plug but leave it in. I'm talking about removing the sparkplugs so they can dry ;)
