Crankshaft Timing marks 2H Engine

Question on crankshaft timing marks on a 1991 1.8 Cabriolet 2H Engine

Hi

Quick question,
I recently did the timing belt on my 91 Cabriolet 1.8 2H engine (Came in from Germany so has Cat fitted)

On the flywheel I could find the diamond timing mark but no TDC dot.
What I did was line the notch on the pulley on the belt side with the arrow on the lower timing belt cover,

Also lined up the marks on the intermediate pulley with the crank pulley,
Checked and this point is TDC on the engine,

Is this the correct point for this engine?
Also set the timing up at 2250 rpm with the blue coolant sensor disconnected (Diamond on flywheel aligned with pointer)

The last belt was aligned to the diamond and the intermediate pulley did not align with the mark on the crank pulley,

Car is running and seems to be running ok but is running hotter, Temp gauge just below 3/4 and oil temp at 106 to 108 when running,
Also my cooling fan cutting in a lot more frequently.

Any ideas

Cheers
David

Did you adjust the timing? There should be no need to adjust the timing by tuning the dissy once you have changed the cam belt unless you are a tooth out somewhere.
If the car is running hotter than before I guess the timing is out.
What type of fuel are you using, super or normal unleaded as that will make a difference to the timing.

Hi

I adjusted the timing to align the diamond with the pointer ran smoother after this.
Running on normal unleaded,

Not sure are temps excessive for the car

106 to 108 oil temp is hotter than my DX engine runs, normally about 90 and 100+ if stuck in traffic or driving quickly on a motorway.
Not to sure on the 2H engine but I would re check the timing marks on the cam belt then check the timing marks. I've never used a timing light on mine as they its  a pain to get to the hole I just advance the timing till it pinks under load the retard the timing till it stops but you do need a quite road to do this, I also find the DX engine runs better on super unleaded as it needs 98 RON petrol to get the best out of it.
The only time I've had to fiddle with the timing was when I ran normal unleaded petrol for 6 months then I switched back to super.

I have a 2H lump with CAT as above.
In very hot weather say +35 and driving for a long distance at 80 to 90 the oil temp will go to about 108 to110.

In the same conditions and stuck in city rush hour traffic, pretty much as above.

But the water temp gauge rarely gets above the top dead center mark!

Yes when I stop the fan is running but always stops after about a minute.

sounds like you did it all properly, does the engine pull well now?

this thread still applies to your motor:

temps are higher than I would like, maybe the cooling system needs a check over now:

Hi

Car pulls well. Checked marks again over the weekend and all align ok.
Will re check timing with MFA rev counter,
Used the rev counter last time so might not have been that accurate.

Did work on cooling system last year, Fitted rad water pump and changed out the hoses.
Fitted a Gates thermostat, Might take this out and fit a genuine one in case in is sticking.

Also have new oil genuine oil temp sensor for vdo gauges so will fit this and check.

Cheers for all your help on this
