Hi, I've bought a clipper cabby on an H plate and it drives great…. Until you slow down and dip the clutch whereupon the revs drop and its struggles then stalls. but not every time its a pig at junctions and if it stalls it takes a bit of cranking to get it started again!!
so far this is what's been done
plugs
dizzy cap
fuel filter
timing
jets removed and cleaned
base gasket checked for leaks (none)
the he mixture is as good as it can get but here is the thing…… Does the mixture screw needle end go to a point or is it about 2mm then flat at the end?
had the car looked at by a well respected garage which my pal who has worked all day on my car uses (he is a land rover specialist and AIRCOOLED guru) now, the carb specialist said the only thing other than the carb being worn, could be the mixture screw tip broken off! He said to remove the screw and check it wasn't broken off or over tightened.
we removed it and as I say, it's flat on the end and only 2mm at most of the tapered bit on the end.
i hope I'm making sense as I'm sure you have gathered…. I'm a knacker so so after trawling the web and the forum for a clear picture of the screw I can't find one.

It should taper to a blunt point so sounds about right. It should be between 1 -2 turns out from fully seated. Any more or less and it's not jetted correctly

All sorted…. It seems!
Rebuilt it and the floats were sticky and the needle valve was worn in the bowls and flooding it.
Been for a few drives this afternoon and it's running like a dream!

Fixed my ar5e!! It's now hunting and struggling on idle
I'm getting rather sick of this now as it's taking the shine right off the car!

When my pierberg went on my old clipper and then I bought a second hand webber and played around with it for ages I nearly lost the faith, its very frustrating, enough to even nearly make me sell it! I was lucky and managed to get it running sweet in the end.
I am pretty sure you can send them to webcon and they rebuild test and clean it for you, might be worth a thought
Good luck, keep the faith , its all part of the fun, and they will test us !

So now it would seem that turning the mixture screw all the way in has it idling lovely
No air leaks, swirl pot bypassed, carb just been semi rebuilt.
I'm thinking idle jet maybe wrong?
And advice on what the four jets should be on the 32/34 carb?
Cheers
