1.8l carb issues: oil in the airbox, sticky throttle

hmm, does that restrictor look like it was originally fitted to the swirl pot? I wonder if they are supposed to have them and sometimes they pop out, get lodged in the pipe and then at some point when the rubber lines are replaced the restrictor is lost....

You may well be right - the old restrictor looks like it may have been clipped to the outlet once, but because of the shape of the hose carb it would never have fitted very well. Seemed fine on the way into work this morning too :)

I think you only get this problem when you fit a webber carb as the fuel is returned to the tank to quickly, don't think you get the problem with the carb VW fit.

Thing is you dont see issues on all weber installations, seems to be a bit random. plus the official weber installation manual makes no mention of fitting a restriction to the fuel return hose, and if one was needed surely it would be in there? this is why I suspect it may be that there may be a factory restrictor piece which may get lost sometimes…

I've also seen where the fuel separator bypass helped with a car with issues, but then later after fitting a new separator the problem does not return.

If it is down to this then it seems we have finally found why some weber randomly have this issue and some do not :)

rubjonny, I think you are spot on about random webber install problems, I don't have a any restriction to my fuel return and it's fine.

dont suppose you coudl shine a torch down your return line and port on the swirl pot, see fi there is any kind of factory restriction? might be too far inside the swirl pot to see though. i always wondered what they look like inside, is it just a pot or is there somethign more complicated...

Struggled again earlier :(

That said it only started at 4500rpm so it's still way better than before. Might try a new separator, they're only a tenner or so from GSF.
