Improvements for the AGM

dunno if its been put already but you say you can't put the south coast closer but you can come down to the south coast, plenty off places round south, or even better i know its been said its expensive but could it not be possible to have a north and a south agm, i'm sure that could work

As I said at the AGM and from experience of doing it in 2008, it has to be close to the events manager/committee and hopefully that is fairly central. They have to make frequent visits, set up/break down and if you put it a great distance away you are asking them to take more time off work, more petrol money, etc. Not fair for people giving up their time for free. Not asking much for peeps to travel to a central location and you can never please everyone but you can please the majority and still make a reasonable journey time for those coming from extreme locations.

It was my first meeting and thought it was great – I will be at the next, definitely

on sunday I couldnt buy food for love nor money. wanted 2 potatoes but ended up getting the last 1..  the mrs and the baby had to share (went back an hour later they still werent ready)

couldnt get any food early doors on saturday.  the bbq didnt start till quite late and by then drink and air had already had its effect  :redfaced:   sorry Tian for being wobbly

location. personally I dont mind where it is..  if its on at a good campsite, perhaps an options to camp on for further days

it would be nice to have camp site facilities a proper shower block and washing area.  Perhaps a camping and caravan site would allow us to take over their whole site for the weekend? i dunno

all in all a great event and nice to meet a lot of new people.  Well done to the organisers!

Thanks for the balanced comments Dubboy.

The show HAS to be as central as possible for the whole country. If that means certain members have a bit of a trek then so be it. That's not me being cocky but just a simple fact. We can't put the event in say Brighton, Portsmouth, Weymouth because it's too far to travel to arrange in the first place AND less people would travel there.

If you consider that you may have travelled 2-3 hours (or
more if you live in Ireland), the committee spend around that per NIGHT, if not more arranging things as best as we can.
For example, just sorting out the show and shine winners thread took ages to get right - around 3 hours!!!

spliting into 2 meets was just an idea i can how much effort and hassle would come from 2 meets alone and then everything that goes with it, like i said was an idea, is there not a way you could do something similar

like agm and 2 one nightiers each year

1 nightier being just a mini meet with out the stands etc basicly camp for mk1 dubbers to meet talk have a bbq get to meet each other have a laugh see each others cars etc,

that way you could keep the agm and then hold very south meet and a very north meet

Let's spin it round another way!

IF meets are popular enough with members and the group wish to organise a weekends camping, crack on!! It was discussed in the meeting and it wa remarked upon how the regional meets had dropped off. So, if any region wishes to set up a camping weekend and invite other regions along feel free.

What the committee won't do is organise 2 or 3 a year, there just isn't time with the NEC and the next years' event.

Hope that helps. :dontknow:

What about inter region competitions like which region can push a mk1 the quickest over set distance & things like that?

I was thinking of this too.  On the Saturday (as not much going on afternoon time), a regional "sports day" which is mk1 related.  Things like how fast you change all four tyres with one jack and a tyre iron…. fastest team to put the cabby roof up etc.

If that's a bit boring then we could introduce the top gear challenges like was mentioned by someone a while ago.  The judges don't tell anyone what's going on.  They hand out gold envelopes with challenges on… I'm with James_W this would bring people a bit closer and add to the fun atmosphere that was so good already!!!

James and Spudfingers comments and ideas sound great.  I also like Novcaine's ideas of having some wacky categories whereby not so concourse cars could still maybe walk away with a prize.

Please don't think that I'm the author of doom and gloom but when i was re-newing the club's insurance I noticed that there was a clause saying that 'no its a knockout style activities will be covered'.

In other words if members/ visitors joined in a car push and strained their back/ twisted their ankle or they got going sooo fast that they ran a child over (ok that wouldn't happen would it!  :redfaced: ) then the club wouldn't be covered and the injured party would be looking to sue the chairman!!!!
(It made me think when I was chairman I'll tell you!).

We had considered inter-region events for this year until I read that clause.

Sorry!
