Vauxhall Chevette

This is my brothers new purchase.

Just going to keep the shell standard but put a bigger engine in and have some rear wheel drive fun. Normally people drop a red top vauxhall engine in but my brother always wants to be different. He has gone for a Ford 1.6 Zetec engine on twin 40's, and ford running gear.

Envy envy envy…

Want a Chevette, as that was my first car.

Zetec isn't that different though; long before redtops, Pinto-powered Chevettes were common.

Different would be a Mazda 13B rotary ;)

Chevette's are going up in value now as well  :D

This was a propper barn find. The car is in such good condition and had just been sat in a garden shed for years. I went to pick it up, pulled it out the shed and it fired up first time, then drove it 200 miles homes without it missing a beat.

I never drove a 2.0 Chevette. The beastiest GM swap I had was a Manta with the roughest Monza 3.0 transplant you've ever seen, the engine was in at an angle yet somehow the damn thing hit 160 without vibration.

However, it was truly terrifying to drive; most people that had a go ran a mile from it! It was matt black, too.

S'okay; mostly it went in a straight line until corners or road imperfections were encountered. Front got a bit floaty at 100, too…

Will do mate. It was mad driving it up the motorway, loads of cars were slowing down to have a good look. I got a few thumbs up from bikers as well.

Been busy moving into a new bigger unit but my brother has still been busy getting the new engine and running gear sorted for the Chevette.

Cool car, but bad engine choice.
I had a 2L zetec on twin 45's in my Westfield and my mate had a red top on twin 45's in his one, the red top was in a different league. Quicker and smoother.

Well i said it's easier to fit a red top but my bro like's to be different. His answer is why follow the norm.  I can see his point tho  :)

Loving the chevette!!

My dad's got one of these, fully prepped rally car. He used to use it for amateur rallying with his brother but its been in the garage for nearly 10 years. Still taxed and insured but only used every now and then these days.

Will have to get some pics up.

Wanted: Front Bumper, DESPERATELY NEED A DRIVERS WING!

I put a red top in my brothers Cat7 great motor and very strong running the Ford type 9 box, your brother will save on not needing an adapter bellhousing sticking with the zetec,I'm sure he will have fun in it anyway,I might be tempted to put a manta or rear wheel drive cavalier back axle in it to gear it up and it will be stronger.the zetec is also a good engine :D

Yeah he is looking for a Manta A axel but there arn't many about.

the manta B can be used as well however it's a lil bit wider than the A.
Also i heard that Vanette rear axles can be used, might be easier to find
