Singh's Rocco

i just bought myself a MK2 Storm in Havanna Brown (84) i believe, paid £600 and its in need of a repair and restore, after doing some research i found some really good advice on looking for rust etc

Alegdly it starts first time and had an engine rebuild before it got sold to my freind and sat on his drive for past 4 years in the great British weather, check the boot at it was extremly damp and signs of rust on wheel arches behind and around body kit. No keys for car so locks need changing,

Hi,
I have owned roccos for many years and have become a bit of an expert. Current one is a 1991 scala with 180000+miles on clock–no body rust. The car is on the ramps at the moment due to the head gasket blew and took a lump of the head with it. I fitted another head from a mk1 golf but cannot get the thing to fire up due to the idiot I bought the head off had levered out the injectors and broke the injector sleeves in the head. I only found this out after fitting the head and couldn,t get fuel to be drawn from the metering head to the injectors. The injection system relies on the manifold depression to open the sliding valve in the metering head to deliver fuel to the injectors. With the inserts busted then there is no way fuel can be injected into the cylinders.
The dampness in your boot can be due to one of two things. 1. bootlid seal around the lock is missing or broken. B&B components in Maidstone Kent have new ones for sale for only a few quid–same as golf bootlid seal. 2 the rear lights have a habit of letting water in. You can tell if its that, if you take off the bulb holders and look for rusty marks. These are easily sealed up by using a clear mastic sealer where the lens meets the framework of the light unit , run a thin bead of clear mastic along the top of the lens and down each side about an inch and it should do the trick.
Hope this helps Gerry
