My Mk1's stock..... My split...ummmm.....isn't ;op

On the strip at Santa Pod…..


It's a 1966 Split Screen commercial van (not camper) that was shortened by 4'10" back in the late 80's. I've owned it for around 15 years and use it regularly including surfing surfari's down in Cornwall  

For the street I run a 1641 type 1 engine and for the strip, an 1835.

On holiday on the Isle Of Wight….


Images of the lil' van seem to pop up in strange places, someone's even made an Iphone app called Airbus with it in  



I've had several VW's over the years but I have to say I have a bit of a softspot for the mini split

Thanks mate    They're stock VW colours, but not right for the vans age. The green is Apple Green from 70's bugs and the white is Candy White from 90's Polo's.

To my knowledge it's the only one on the road in the UK. I heard about another that had been imported from the states but it needed loads of work. Splits go for silly money now so I don't spose there'll be many more cut up  :wink:

Suburu had a go at copying a short split a few years ago and called them Sambar's. From a distance, they kinds look a little like a shortened split. The cheeky buggers even put VW badges on em  

haha well all i can say is you will probs never loose out on money with it, if anything it will keep growin because of how rare it is !

There seem to be quite a few in the States, I think it's partly cos there's a lot more donor vehicles over there?

I also have a splitty.  I see we have similar tase in VWs, series 1 Golfs and splittys.  Mine isn't stock either, but nothing like yours!  Is yours still a bus underneath the body work or is it a bug?  I suppose the bus is based on a Type 1 anyway so not much difference I suppose.

Mine's still on it's original bus chassis which has obviously been shortened too ~ beach buggy stylee    It's cool cos as it retains it's original plate.

think i saw this a vanfest this year, look awsome in the flesh !
