My beloved Red Hot Mini project

Thought i'd post a few pictures of my beloved 1988 Red Hot Mini, that i've finally finished restoring after several long years! As you can see from the first picture she was in a bit of a state as i'd driven her for several years and the rust was beginning to take hold.

So i finally decided to strip her down, replace the whole front end (which practically fell off), a fair amount of the floor, sills and a few other places, do her up and sell her.

I did the spraying myself at the end of summer 2010, bought the original colour paint ready made in aerosol cans, which was a whole lot easier than using a paint gun, and not too expensive. (had previously helped my dad re-spray his Mk1 Cooper which you can see in the background using a paint gun and it was extremely messy).

And then the finished article here:

Took about 3 years in total, but had a lot of fun doing it. I sold the mini a couple of months ago for a fairly decent amount, was very sad to let her go, but couldnt really justify keeping it as well as my Mk1 Golf.  :(

What a gourgous little car. I had a mini before my golf. And i miss it now. And its only been gone since august… But it had to go before i got the mk1. And now i have a '68 riley elf in the back garage for when the golf is done. The golf should be on the road on tuesday.
