mk1 golf cabriolet

Hi every 1 just made myself a member as i have only ever owned a vw . at the moment my daily driver is a 02 gt tdi 130 and i got myself a mk 1 cabriolet for a bit of a summer car. I got it off ebay its a h reg clipper and stands me at 560. the shell is mint under the bonnet and underneath panels apart from front drivers wing slightly dinted and couple of bumper scuffs
It has the normal 1.8 carb engine and the head gasket has gone but instead of fixing it i would like to know what i could put streight in instead without chopping and changing for example 16v on twin 45s or something? ive always wanted 1 ov these since i was a kid (33 now lol) ive had many mk 2s and 3s can somebody point me in the right direction plz oh and whare could i purchase a full set of side window rubbers :banghead
