I'm looking to get a proper road bike in the new year, I have the money but I'm waiting for a bargain.
A mate of mine just bought a nice bike, don't know the details, he just rides to work and back and that's only a couple of miles a day. I tend to go out on twenty mile rides minimum so I need something comfortable and quick.
The bloke in the shop went on about Halfords being terrible too. Apparently bike shops are obliged by law to construct your bike so that it meets minimum standards like torque settings but instead boast that they're doing you a favor.
Interesting also is that the UK is the cheapest place to buy a bike as we have some of the fewest regulations governing standards, this makes us very popular in Europe, exporting thousands of bikes through individuals who come over just to buy a bike.
Finally, almost all, even the very expensive carbon framed £4000 race bikes are made in India for peanuts and simply branded.
There ya go, ten minutes being lectured at by a bike buff in a bike shop condensed into a few paragraphs.
T

At the start of this year I got a Giant Talon 2 in white, mountain bike and take it on track cycles with my 2 boys most weekends so nothing to rough as the wee man is only 6 but I have got him upto 10 miles
Just been up in Perthshire for a weeks hols and myself, my mate and my 13 year old went some brilliant cycles up the hills on tracks or through the forests and the bike was brilliant.
My wee lad has a Ferrari mountain bike that I won on ebay for a steal brand new and it is brilliant for him and my older lad now has my £200 ebay Baracuda mountain bike that I used before I got the Giant.
There is not many better feelings than being out with your sons on a nice day doing a decent cycle through my local country parks and cycle paths
It even comes close to driving my Vw :dontknow:
Tian, 1 off my work mates does proper cycling and he does road and mountain bike racing and he has something like £15k or more worth of bikes, never mind the spares
Cheers Chris
