Which Mk1???

I am quite new to Mk1 Golfs. Have seen them driving around obviously and have admired them from a distance but not looked into them too much.

I am about to sell my car and I am looking for something which will be a semi-project car. I.e. road worthy but needs tidying up, respraying etc.

My main question is this, i'm only planning on keep the car for 6-8months whilst I save money for an Elise S2, what would be the best variant of Mk1 to buy bearing in mind what the resale price will be once restored to its former beauty? Would a GTi be best or does it not make much difference?

mk1's are not just for 6mths there for life m8 lol,

with all fair respect why would you buy a car to do up while saving for a another car that makes no eco sense unless i'm missing the point somewhere

I want something that I can restore just as a project/hobby but I don't have the space for a project and another car.

personaly i don't like to say this but i'd carry on looking from the distants purely if you got ur mind on elise its not worth spending else were, i don't know how much an elise will cost but if you do get a mk1 to tart up abit its funds badly spent

but on the other side of it might just put you off the elise and stick with a old girl of car,

i guess if i was in your shoes i would have to see what came along 1st money and elise or a decent mk1 worth having and not just brought on a inpulse

but as the topic asks which one and given your above notes i would think a cabby as there tends to be more off them around and fairly cheap compared to a tin top of same condition
