Wats fastest engine

Seriously thinking of tracking my gti but first want to add up costs.
best suspension and engine any suggestions and rough cost will do work myself ?

Alternatively anyone got a track road legal fast gti want swap with money either way?

seems to be the most common/easiest way to get decent power into a mk1. You could do it for much less than £5000 if you wanted, have a look at the article on the left.

have a look at for sale section, "bens cab" wanted £2500 for his cabby with the 1.8T conversion done, maybe an option for a donor? then put the other stuff into the cabby and sell on ?

ive got a 1.8 16v gti im selling soild car and could be made faster with cams and head work etc .
other than that go down the 20vt route  :lol:

tis a 1979 with 1,6 8 valve engine so quick but not scary like my other track toys i have had :(

if youve had track toys you should have some idea on what needs to be done.
decent base engine (2.0 16 valve with tweaks) (chipped 20v t for easy power) unless low on mileage pref rebuilt for strength,
rebuilt garbox with lsd is good for track i hear.
roll cage will give the mk1 some needed stiffness as would some braces on suspsension turrets,
decent coilovers (dont go to low)
decent track day tyres,
the list goes on, do some searching and you will find tonnes of info that would take weeks to read!
