todays work

went into work today to sort out the front end on the golf, the bumper had been scraped both sides and bot wings had dents in them so the aim was to repair and paint it today. started off taking the f/bumper off

as it transpired the drivers wing was shot and it has pretty much completely rusted through, so was no point doing that one, then after a short stab trying to get the huge dent out the other wing i gave up as its pretty much had it too. so 2 new wings will be on order soon as. still, i caried on with the front bumper at least:

after i repaired it, it was degreased and put in the oven for primer

thanks for looking
worst news was that as i'd prepped it for paint and began mixing the paint we had run out of standox 372 so that was it, now it'll be getting painted on tuesday, bit of an annoying day as didnt get as much done as i'd hoped, hopefully it'll all be done in time for run to the sun tho. as she stands now:

Nice job there.

I saw a black cab in Stevens vw today while I was after some bits for the oil burner, massive frontal smash but the rest of it's ok.  Couple of other mk1's with decent wings on too.

macca, just a quick question.

What gave more smiles per gallon, your Renault 5 or the Pug 205 GTI?

cor, wot a difficult decision, well i had both of them at the same time and i ended up selling the r5, sometimes i wish i hadnt but at the time i reasoned the 205 was more reliable and easier to run. it also creamed the r5 too, but the r5 always made me smile more.
if i were to buy one again, i'd choose the r5 first

wahoo, got the collies fitted, man its low, very low need new tyres wiv sum serious stretch to stop the scrubbin, however, pics:

old fronts off:

new fronts on:

first attempt on the front showed it was far too low, car sitting on the tyre, looked good tho:

that was saturday done, called it a day cuz i was soaked. on sunday did the rears, the old:

the new:

first attempt was much the same as the front so got it all adjusted to sit level:

also got the rear wheels refurbed as they were lookin tired:

didnt take many pics cuz my camera broke but will take sum more wen i do the fronts. need to sort the tyres soon as poss cuz its scrubbin reli bad.

quick update on how i refurbed my wheels, got them done yesterday, just before the footy started… phew.

i started by given them a rub down with a yellow scotch and sum matting paste:

next i used my mouse thingy to go over the lip to remove as much of the kerbing and flakey laquer and corrosion from before:

masked up ready for primer:

moved itno the shed for the next bit as it was warmer and less flies than outside, etch primed:

center cap and wheel painted:

next the clearcoat, but 2 good layers of this on:

and all finished:

thanks for looking, comments welcome
