The story of my golf....

hiya my name is sam and this is my first post, as this is my first ever vw mk1 cabby. i bought the car in june 2011 for £1100. Over the next couple of months i will be cleaning the engine bay, maybe swapping the enigne but not sure though. front and back bumper need re-spraying and the carbs setting up, but here is the spec of the car so far, hope you like it and comments welcomed.

Engine:
1.8 16v kr (mk2 gti engine)
standard Manifold
stainless steel exhaust

Suspension:
gaz adjustable suspension

Breaks:
g60 front dics and pads
standard back

alloys:
13" revolution alloys

Exterior:
standard

Interior:
cream leather seats
cd player
uprated speakers

Had to double take it's a Cabby not a Caddy lol.
You got your B's and D's mixed up.

ha sorry about that its been a long day lol, thanks and the roof is electric and its only 2months old so got no rips or marks andworks like a dream which im really happy with. i just seen that but my car isnt working as i need to tune up my carb setting but i will be there next year..

been working on the car the past couple of days. iv takens the front n back seats out, and most of the engine bits as well ready for the engine to come out on saturday :) also taken the front bumper off as it needs re-spraying and painted the front brakes green, here is some pics and comments welcomed.

seats out, still need to re-fit my carpet.


girlfriend painting my breaks bless her :P she did do a good job of them though.




the engine bay with most of the parts still init and my cat telling me what to do.



and now with most parts gone.



also so clean parts like my roof lining and bonnet.

Does it drink a lot of juice with those carbs bud?

its ok mate n im not sure because im taking them out and the engine and replacing with a normal engine, i was told by a friend who has carbs, that it will drink petrol, i think he said about 15 to 20miles to the gallon.

Exactly what my mate says too 15mpg  8O  8O !!!!  Good to see your changing it…. even though they do sound awesome  :mrgreen:

i must say, they do sound awesome and when i did drive it around my villege which is about 1/2 mile every one was looking because of the sound.

thank you, it was up for sale a couple of days ago but iv been told by my boss at work i will have weekends off so i have time to work on my car which is good new's :)

iv taken my engine out this weekend and i must say it was easy to take out. ready for a standard 1.8 16v kr engine all polished up n it looks really nice will get a pic soon, but here is some pics of the engine in n out.




need to clean my engne bay but its coverd in a thick layer of grease, it seems to be a wax, does anyone know how to get this off?

engine bay

Mate when i tried to clean my engine bay i found it covered in grim or is it some sort of coating, but anyway decided to get rid of it using Gunk and ....leaving it a bit then cleaning off, Ive also used rag and petrol...it comes up like a treat then some mer for the final touch..

iv used gunk and it come up ok, its just in some places it's a good 1 or 2mm thick grime n when i chip it away it feels like a wax, im painting the engine bay after this is all gone so it looks like new :)

little update on the car, i made up a shelf for my speakers for the back n here it is in the car,


and here is a picture of my new kr 1.8 engine with polished parts,

nice build mate - how do you find the speakers in the back - was thinking about doing it on mine - but when you have the roof down dont you find that the sound is muffled. and its when the roof is down that i want to blast the tunes. but am loving the veedub logo

Thanks mate for your comment, i made sure the speakers where as close to the rear seats as possiable, so when the hood goes down it doesnt cover them much, only the top plastic part gets cover so you can still here my music loud and clear, also they are powerful speakers + i have uprated front spreaks n people can here it down road lol
