The PugWagen....
This is a realy strange one, so if anyone can shed any light on it's history then please do so.
I have known about the car for a couple of years, so when I chanced upon it on ebay I had a punt.
The car is a W reg small block 3dr, I think it's supposed to be a 1.1 but I don't realy know. Anyway at some point in it's life it was fitted with a Peugot Mi16 16v 1.9L engine.
It actualy looks quite at home in there, although I am not sure the engine should be canted over so much.
Anyway, the previous owner had bought the car already converted so could provide little information on it's origins. ( or why a Frog lump ended up in a German car.. )
Unfortunatly the engine that is in the car has a worn crank and the sump has been removed for inspection, I am going to replace the sump and fire her up to see if the conversion still runs at all. The car has come with a spare engine which I am yet to determin the conditon of.
I have found various things than need attending to on the actual conversion, and I need to work out what has been used, aparently there's a MK3 Golf PAS rack in there somewhere.
Bodily the car is in need of some attention, one wing needs patching as does one wheel arch. door bottoms have at the very least surface rust. the tailgate is poor but I do have a spare. And the drivers windscreen pillar has a 4" rust gash,
Interior is a bit sparse as the rear carpet and seats were removed, the dash is in nice condition, and there's a pair of Escort RS Turbo seats chopped onto the golf runners.
I have yet to investigate much of the running gear and suspension, but it's sitting on Renault 19 16V alloys.
So….
VW Body
Renault Wheels
Peugot Engine
Ford Seats…
The plan is to get it running so I can move it about and then asses the spare engine. Then to fix up the body and spray signal yellow over black. I will probably upgrade the brakes if they look standard as the car will be pushing 170BHP .
It's got to contend for time with my 5dr and my Sierra Sapphire 24v though…

I forgot to mention that the rear of the sills is very crusty, and further investigation of this my dictate the future of the car. If it's too much work then it could be on a short wicket…
Stageringly after 4 years laid up all the electrics apart from the horn and rear washer seem to still work!!
Some bits may be swapped onto the 5Dr ( espescialy the bonnet. )

That engine looks at home in the bay, fills it quite nicely, not sure on those wheels though. Maybe turbines if your sticking with renault wheels?
Should make a preoper cool project though

With the 3dr already being modded I will be seeking to try and keep our 5DR FormelE standard. It's only slightly non standard anyway and some of those bits can transfer to the 3dr.

the angle of the engine should be ok, the main problem with mi16 conversions is oil surge, at least in 205's anyway. tbh, id flog the french lump as they still fetch about 400 and stick an ABF lump in there, be much more reliable that way and youd be running similar power
