Small project log from Cornwall- Golf C

Hi,
My name is Rob, and I finally picked up my first car on Friday, a 1984 Golf C in Marine Blue.
Cost me £2000. Been saving for the past two years. I really like her though :)
I am 17 in 5 months. Therefore I have this time to get her looking slick, not that she doesn't already.
The good-
1.3 electronic ignition engine (was 1.1)
Triple plated chrome bumpers
Almost new 13" ats classics, and almost new tires
Chavvy stainless exhaust system (good because I can sell it!)
No proper rust anywhere.
All original paint (except wings)
83k miles.
GTi center console
Interior is almost standard- door cards are good, dash is ok,
Nice wood/chrome grant steering wheel.
Adjustable coilovers.

The bad-
Few small dings- going to leave them, it's a first car!!!
Front wings paint has cracked and rubbed off a little to the old paint (someone did a crap job)
Couple of places where the paint has chipped off, need to get some touch up paint
Few other small things.

Pics will come later.
Today I wired up the horn to the steering wheel, the previous person bodged the horn witha switch on the dash!
I plan to wire up the gauges next. I won a VDO RPM gauge 0-8k 52mm on eBay today for £25.
I am going to have an oil pressure gauge, an analogue clock and the RPM gauge in the GTi centre console.
I hope to make up some wooden door interior handles, to replace the rubbery plasic ones. I may also make some wooden seat winders as one is missing anyway! I also plan to make or buy some chrome/wood window winders, and get a 'retro' looking radio that I can use an auxilary cable with, and also get some speakers (there are none in the car ATM).
The rear parcel shelf brackets need securing properly, they are held on with cable ties.
I also plan to repair the drivers seat as there is a rip in it.

Under the hood she is fairly standard. I need to touch up a few rusty bits, and maybe get some chrome goodies, like expansion tank. I am going to get some of the corregated plastic cable tidy things for all the wiring, and I may see if I can nickel plate the rocker cover.
She also needs jacking up as she catches on speedbumps etc, and rides hard.
Here is the ebay listing

Cheers
Rob
Edit: Sorry, just realised how dull this post was without any pics! I will be sure to post pics soon, but it is dark now and I don't have any yet.

Here are some pics, sorry been away for a few days.

Any idea where to mount the oil pressure sender on a 1.3?

Today I recieved the VDO rev gauge and installed it. Also wired up the clock and oil pressure gauge bar the sender, and ripped out a load of un neccesary wiring.

If you're planning on running that through winter, you might want to consider either fitting a standard airbox - or rigging up a rudimentary warm air feed to the air filter.

1.3s (mine included) suffer badly from carb icing when the temperature is less than about 5 degrees. as a result the standard airbox had a butterfly valve in the trumpet which, upon activation of a vacuum solenoid, switches between cold/warm air. the car will become undriveable if you do any long journeys.

P.S. if you know all this, feel free to tell me to sod off.

Thanks, didn't know that.  Don't plan on taking her anywhere far this winter as I have not passed my driving test yet,  however i will be sure to rig up something for next winter.

Cheers, yeh can't wait!
I think I need a new battery which sucks. was last replaced nov. 2009, but it either has something draining it or it is a crap battery. Yesterday I jumped it- i left the heated rear window on. Today the battery was flat again. I am going to charge overnight, then leave it till I next do anything with the car, and see if it has held its charge.

Plan to ring up the local scrap yard. I want to find an oil pressure sensor, and possibly a 13" wheel with a 50mm side wall to use as a spare. The spare I have has a 75mm sidewall, and I don't want to be paying good money for tires for a spare!

Hopefully I will get my donor seat tomorrow :-)

Got the donor passenger seat, thanks to leembo.
Pulled the cover off the drivers seat and unpicked the ripped piece.
Plan to take the old passenger seat tomorrow and install the donor one. Then the best bits of the original seats will be put together.

I am thinking about the radio and speakers. Does it sound like a good idea to install some speakers into the centre console, as I don't want to hash up the dash or door cards.

There are grills each side of the rear parcel shelf for speakers,I took an old speaker from there, went to the scrap yard and found a much better set from a modern car with the same fitment so no butchering :D .
Don't ruin your door guards mate that would be sacrilege.

I was planning on putting some there, but they are quite small, and a long way from the driver. I wanted some in the front somewhere, and considering a centre console isn't worth much, especially because it is not standard on my car, i could put some 5" or so speakers in there?

What about under the front seats?

Yeh, not a bad idea, may do.
Or may just put a sub under the seat.

Did a search, couldn't find his car. Any pics?

Today started stitching the seat fabric back together, and gave her a good wash and some turtle wax. Shiny :)

Gunna make a custom handbrake gaitor, the stock one is naff imo.
