Series 2 Mk1 golf gti 1983 1.8 8v Resto

Hi all thought i'd better start a build thread on the Golf. I've had the car for about seven years now and started to get fed up with the little spots of rust appearing so i started to get to work on them and on this i discovered a whole world of rust and rot so decided it was time to take the car off the road and get restoring. I've never done anything this involved on a car before but i'm very handy so its time to get stuck in. Any help and advice would be amazing as its a bit of a fly by the seat of my pants situation.

This is how the car looked at the end of last years show season. It's been my daily driver all this time and it's soo painfull not ragging it around at the moment but i suppose i will have to get used to that.

Before grinding this is the condition it was in.

Roof Blemish.

Passenger Door pretty bad under here.

At this point i got the angle grinder out with a wire cut brush on and here is what i found!!

Roof blemish again.

An old repair by someone.

Sill on drivers side has gone through floor.

So here is some of the work i've done just to keep me busy   All these pictures are work in progress

Sunroof corner repairs.

That roof blemish again.

Purchased a new rear panel and some arch repair bits still need to get inner arch repair panels but the wallet is pretty empty right now.

Offering them up.

New Rot discovery   Is this fixable? I'm guessing it is. I took off the rear arch plastic liner and oh joy this was my little present.

Also think there is a bit that has rusted away from just below the filler neck. If anyone could send me a picture of what this should look like under here that would be sweet.

And that is basically it at the moment. any comments and advice are always appreciated. Thanks for looking, Duncan.

Yeah lots of work and every time I do one thing I find something else but at least I'll know everything is gonna be sorted. I'm just near Harpenden but the car lives in a lock up in Watford

Thanks, I'll try and keep the pictures up to date but I've got a bad habit of doing stuff and getting to involved and forgetting to take pictures until the work is done. But yeah gonna look amazing when it's done :-) if anyone's got any tips or pictures of how to cut out the rear panel that would be great. There is a how to on the site but the pictures don't seem to work
