Rust to metal do i trust it?
the real bad bits of rust need to be cut out and replaced but do i need to cut every bit of rust out?
Like round the windows where there is pitting where the rubbers were etc.
Can i just rust to metal them or will the rust just come back?
Be greatful for any info

\'Check Your Nuts!\' My partner has just been through an operation and chemotherapy for Testicular Cancer and is only 29. He had no lump or pain, just became swollen… If in doubt, get to the doctor!

If it doesn't clean back to smooth shiny metal without removing much of the material thickness it wants chopping out.
Best way to tackle the rust to the rain gutters is first completly strip them back including underneath using paint stripper and a strip and clean disk . Then you can see what you're facing and how best to tackle it
had to do this on mine - but replaced a large section to be safe

If the rot is there on the out side it'll be worse on the inside
basically inner skin (attached to roof beams) wraps underneath up and around the roof skin holding it in place - along with 3 - 4 spot welds
+ all the spot welds at the screen apertures etc
idea is to cut the rain gutter through the outer wall only to allow you to remove the gutter as a staple - you can then remove the roof skin section leaving the lower bit of the gutter in place. need to heat the staple to loosen any seam sealer etc
you need to be really careful with the grinder as not to mess up the "staple" as this will need to go on in the exact position it came off - you can then replace the section using a doner roof chopped from a scrapped car or repair the bit you have and refit it
in true haynes style refitting is the reversal of removal.
staple can be pinched over the skin and welded up along the original cut gap - weld will penetrate roof skin and tie it all up nicely - easy to dress back to
joint is then as it was from the factory
hope this helps
But as i said it really depends on how much and how bad it is - get some photo's up
