Rob's Golf L **UPDATE 02/10/10 Page 9**

Bought this yesterday. Cracking little motor in need of some TLC

Going to sort it while its on the road over the next few weeks! Once paint work is done, lots of chrome bits and bobs will be added. Maybe some fancy wheels too!

Nice looking motor Rob, hope to see it buzzing round Telford  :) , are you staying original or got some plans??

Not straying too far away from original. Get the body nice and a suspension kit and wheels for now.

Made some progress today. Took off the rear axle to sort the rot by the mount. Was worried about the bolts shearing off but all is good and came off with no bother! Lucky me thinks  :D

Drivers side is solid, passenger side is brown dust! To be honest the MOT isn't worth the paper its written on. Been there a long time!

Had to chop the brake hoses in half as the unions had seized.

Pics to follow

Some more work done today

Nearly all rot chopped out

Didn't need all the panel which is always nice so cut out what I needed

All welded and seam sealed. Not the neatest of jobs ive done but strong and rot free! Looks better in the flesh!

Grey mastic over the top and underseal and it will look like new.

get rid of that surface rust or you'll be underneath the car again next year…

bilt hamber do a great gel which you brush on - leave for a few hours and wipe off with some thinners - rust is gone then you can zinc over it and paint it… less hassle long term!

good work btw.

Some more progress today. Thought the drivers side axle mount area was ok but wasn't. Nothing major though, only requiring a small patch. I found this after straightening out the sill where its been jacked in the wrong place for years!

Put some new rear hoses on the axle ready as its a bit difficult to do with axle in place.

While I was there I thought I would look under one of the arch spats to see whats lurking! Nothing major really. Just a bit of surface and a hole at the bottom which will be repaired soon.

I know its not a Golf but I thought i'd show a pic of my previous car I restored and modded just to show what sort of standard it will eventually be.

I once belonged to the Dark side!

Small update. Haven't done much to the car with the poor weather but have had some good news. My wheels have finally been banded!

Before;

2 inch band to make 7 inch

3 inch's added to make 8!

Still in Holland at the moment but should get them by the end of febuary. Still need to buy tyres and a suspension kit first!

As soon as body work is done I suppose my thread will have to moved to the modified section.

p.s. got some beaded seat covers too  8)

Love the banded wheels mate, can't wait to see them on.
Really want to do mine too, but a little too expensive for my budget!
