Restoration 1.6 Gti - Help please

Hi Guys,

Just starting out on my restoration project of my mk1. One of the first things i need to address is the fixing of the tin worm on the little beastie. Most of it is pretty easy and standard but have a couple of bits im a bit unsure of.

She has rusted pretty badly byt the rear mounting bolts for the rear axle. I have found the right panels to replace them with bu just need to get them welded in. Im guessing this will be an easy job for a professional to do so i wont even try myself.

Other bit is that i have a few small spots of rust alont the roof gutters on both sides of the roof so want to take the roof lining out so i can get a full idea of how bad it is. Question is how easy is it to take the roof lining out?

Sure there will be many more questions in the future but this is the first one.

ta

Marc

Headling is glued in place around the door and window apertures which means you have to remove the windscreen and rear quarter glass to remove it. Apply a little heat with a hair dryer to loosen the glue so you don't rip the head lining. You will also need to unslot 3 or 4 metal rods that suspend the head lining across the car.
