How many coats of primer and final coat did you use?

Need to do mines aswel. Any useful tips to remember when spraying a bonnet.

You might not believe this, but…..
…soaked the tape in WD40 overnight, then scraped/pulled it off with the edge of a softish piece of wood (hardly any pressure needed)..
…a good soaking with engine cleaner followed by a very thorough rinsing…
…a good clean with white spirit…
..couple of deep scratches cleaned out then filled with white primer using a fine artist brush…lightly sanded down till they were just below the level of the surrounding good bits…topped off when fully dried with colour coat - sprayed a load into a plastic lid and used the artist brush again….when it was dried I lightly scraped the excess off with a razor blade….

…the front offside corner (previous botch repair)…sanded …coat of primer, feathered in, two coats of hi-build primer feathered in, then two coats top colour from spray can - then feathered it in to the rest of the bonnet…

….then the hard knackering bit - block sanded the whole bonnet with lots of slightly soapy water from a small hand held pump action garden pressure sprayer and 800, 1200, 1500 then 2000 grit, followed by lots of hand polishing with white T-cut (not the 'new' paint on the corner), finishing with light hand polish with G3…

This 'was' only a practice piece…but I'm SOOOOO chuffed, it's going on the car with the full knowledge that it will show the rest of the car up !!!!
Incentive to get the rest of the car done…get a spray gun and a proper polisher (my arms are KILLING me !!)

Thanks to Danny for the bonnet

Great effort Prowler!  That looks excellent.
Given me the extra bit of motivation I need to have a go at my driver's door and boot lid.

…yup, that's the next thing on the shopping list…..and I've now got my old bonnet as a practice piece before 'attacking' the whole car.
