Raffles Inari Silver S1 Rebuild **2.0 16v**

Ok so i finaly got my series 1 Inari shell delivered today. Its solid as they come and its had a 95% resto plus its just been undersealed. Just some smoothing off in the bay and a few other odds and sods on the body and refit the interior. Then hopefully i would have decided what lump she's getting. Its already fitted with a brand new GTi tank so thats whats at the forefront of my mind but im also considering a TD option as its a blank canvas atm.

To see the work done so far by the previous owner and see one of the best mk1's around (his silver 3dr) open this link http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=209059&st=0&p=1807619&fromsearch=1&#entry1807619

I will update as i go along from where hes left off

Ive got big plans for this baby.

This is solid it just needs running over

All the door membrains are untouched and original

Original lights

Smoked ones ive fitted

Its got a pattern front panel and the wings are either pattern or S2 i havent checked yet. Original factory tint glass, a new fillerneck (CrazyQuiffs) and i also brought the dark brown/black S1 dash & clocks and centre console. Plus ive got a dark brown Wolfsburg wheel winging its way to me now.

Plans for the interior are a dark chocolate brown and black leather combo.

Well i stuck the other side on and realised its got a nice break on the top corner so they wont be staying long. Gonna stick the original lenses in the dishwasher soon.

Pulled the rear axel off the doner today and snapped two of the bolts on one side. Anyone know what size they are so i can get new ones. Also gonna need two new handbrake cables.

They don't look like postie lights, just tinted standard ones.

Heart transplant has been collected today.

2.0 16v 150bhp Power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tow bar snapped tho so ended up in the back of my mates Xantia. Scuffed his bumper a little and smashed my passenger light to bits so i ended up driving it back anyway and its a shed :banghead:

Chopped springs and some crappy quickshift gearstick. Seats that were only fitted on at the front and a clutch that had a hobby of slipping or the pedal getting stuck, what a night.

The engine pulls quite well tho and thats the main thing :P

Sellotape & hope will keep it in

Nah ive still got the mounts and the GTi one im gonna need but they are not going back on till the bays been finished and when they do i can tip the engine a bit to avoid clearance issues as im leaning towards the stock Seat managment over the Kjet setup.

Besides i still need to replace the box for an 020 as im not gonna payout nearly ?200 notes on a mount just to use the 02a with a crappy short shift.

Watalotafun, hopefully its gonna be in there in a month or so but i still need to get a pump, fuel lines and brakes sorted so its gonna be a while till its ready to be driven. I would like to roll into the 2010 AGM in this when its done but its just a pipe dream as ive got loads of work ahead of me.

Nice choice of engine :y:

If you decide on k-jet ,I have got a 16v metering head, manifold, fuellines  etc that I don't need any more as I have removed my 16v.

Sure it would be easier with the seat management as you have the complete donar car.

If you need any bits Pm me as I am clearing my mk1 parts.

Nice1 Mark.

Well ive got an update but no pics im afraid
Ive now got the rear beam, drums & coilies on the rear so its now "situpandbeg" style with its bum on the ground and its front legs up in the air
I finally cracked the hub nuts off of the Mk1 doner with my mates GIANT socket set so ive now got the shock, hub, track rod and wishbone seperated on the passenger side and ive only got the track rod holding on in the drivers side. I cracked that nut off after about an hour but the rod end wont come out. Bloody thing   .
Ive also put the doner Mk1 seats/cards in and the carpet has been put in place but i have a brown one that i plan to replace it with as soon as i buy new underlay/soundproofing, to keep with the planned interior combo. I did also get a brown parcel shelf and supports but its all worthless apart from the fabric :banghead:
I was also considering keeping the stock seats and retrimming them but with the lump she is getting im gonna want more bolster than they can deliver so the Rover GTi seats i did plan for my old cabby are getting put in after a retrim.

Ive also decided to incorperate a light green/brown tartan in the interior to bring in some of the inari inside. I was gonna use a brown suede on the seats but im liking the retro sleeper style so some retro S1 GTi style tarten is tickling my fancy. So the interior will eventualy be a mix of black leather, brown suede and my tartan once ive decided on what one.

I will eventually replace the headlining with some black vinal as the white just wont fit in here. I would like brown to reflect the carpet but i cant find anyone who makes it and im not sold yet but i might retrim. It depends on my interior trimmer (Mum  )

Does anyone know much about the gear ratios as the only box ive got at the mo is a 4sp from a 1.1? Somehow i dont see that lasting long if i bolt that on  , i dont want a cable change box so im leaning toward the 020 but is there anything better than the 020 thats linkage fitted :dontknow:
Im not looking for this to be a dragstrip racer but i want it to shift, on the other hand i dont want to be pulling in to every shell i pass :D .

I will get some pice up of my progress when i get a chance

Have you got a ball joint breaker to remove the track rod end form the hub?.

If not I bring one with me when I pop round.

As for gearboxes IMO you want one from at least a 1800 gti or mk2 8 or 16v all same ratios .The 1600 gti box is ideal for sprinting but would be tiresome on long runs.

I ran a 1800 gti gearbox on my valver and wouldn't have wanted it any lower geared.
With running 13 inch rims with low pro tyres you  may want to also consider changing the fifth gear for a diesel one.
Sounds like you are making good progress with it  ,and I know someone who makes headlining ,can speak to him about making a brown one if you decide on it?

Yeah the 1.8 GTi box is always the obvious choice. If im right i wont need to get any 100mm driveshafts will i? Im sure i read somewhere that if you keep the 020 box you can also keep the 90mm shafts??

Im probably gonna have to go up to 14" as im fitting bigger brakes but you can explain changing the 5th if i can get away with fitting some more classics. If i can source some anyway as ive not got those rims in my sig  .

Thanks im happy with how its coming along  . It would be nice to get a ball park figure on the head lining.
