Munn & Chapman Original Mars Red GTI

hello all i have finally made a start on my new project, its a Mars red 1983 tintop GTI. first job was to get it taxed and tested, not too bad on the advisories considering its been standing in the snow and rain etc for a while.

heres some pics

its in pretty good condition, next job is to clean the engine bay up as its caked in years of leaking oil and other plop!!

cheers

Much better mate. As I have said before elbow grease makes all the difference. Any plans to remove the fan cowling/cam cover etc for a little paint up :)

Nice motor, what does the Munn&Chapman badge mean? Is it an original trader?

Did you steam the engine your self? It makes a big difference..

hello Nick its the dealer badge from where the car was bought back in the day.

have a friend who runs a valeting and repairs garage who did the steam clean, and i must admit i was shocked at the difference it made. especially around the oil filter housing, throttle body and breather hoses, very well worth it.

cheers

Good job   It looks a treat!

I've heard of people using wall paper steamers/de greaser and a brush.

It's something I'd like to give a bash. (Or get done! )

lol it would probably work but will need alot of time……..this was alot quicker, spray solution on heavy oil areas and get the bad boy out lol

half hour job done. and it fired first time……………well eventually lol

Steam clean made a big difference

Apart from the bolster tear, the interior looks in very good shape, bright colour in the seats still
