Project monkey update 02/04/12

well guys after thinking i had the car all finished, i started finding rust all over the place, and went off the colour too.

so i began to think what to do and after a few discusions pictures and ideas thrown around i came up with a plan…….

the colour change was to be candy white , same as the mk5 golf gti and using all the origional gti trim, spats etc.
the car was to be sat on some lenso bsx 15x7.5 black baskets with stretched tyres and spacers on the back
the engine bay to have the rain tray removed, heater matrix removed and plated over and bulkhead skimmed, brake servo mastercylinder and linkage removed, battery tray removed, windscreen tank removed, all holes welded up and skimmed and a nice clean 2ltr 8v engine running twin 40 dcoe's sat there without a wire to be seen.

so the work has started

well that was weekend one and i was exhausted.

weekend 2 i began welding and making fires all the fun lololol

and along came the filler oh my god didnt realize what i had got myself in for…….its no as easy as it looks

after i got this far and the skin had fallen off my hands i started my friends project and stitched on an arch to a vw corrado

and the same week i recieved some new ish pannels which were trial fitted and sent to the paint shop

i also was able to loan a pedal box off a friend to copy and for the previous 3-4 weeks i had been making a copy in my dinner breaks and is now finally fitted,

oh and abit more sanding

thats me till next weekend and ill update again…

put another 5 hours on the engine bay this afternoon after going out and buying a new compressor which came with a spray gun, wash gun, tyre inflator, hose, air gun for ?70 screwfix and bought a da sander, and drill.

unfortunately the compressor wasnt man enough to run the da sander :(  so still had to do it all by hand. they now hurt!!!!!!

guess what im doing tomorro!!!!!!!!

ANYONE GOT ANY GOOD DOORS FOR SALE, IE NO RUST

B-E-A-UTIFUL. Thats just the look im going for on my MK1 Caddy. Excellent work,  :D  in such a short space of time aswell
I know how painful and anoying digging sealer out and then feathering everything out can be.  :banghead:  Quick Question though, when you say you removing the brake servo and master cylinder. Where abouts are you relocating it to? Cheers Joe

Ive removed the servo, master cylinder and system to make way for twin 40 dcoe's and because it looks so ugly. instead ive opted for a biasd pedal box. this fits onto an adapted steering column inside the car and runs 2 master cylinders direct off the brake pedal.  these usually cost around ?250-300 mark but i was lucky to get my hands on one to copy

other than that ive been busy again….. more sanding, more filling more paint but i think im getting somewhere.

More updates 06/06/08

woohoo, doors arrived today and as advertised they are mint, only a small amount of surface rust and the da sander has taken all of that out.

also did abit more to the engine bay. been trying to get a dicent edge to the bulkhead just looks like filler but thats the 3rd skim of the night to get the knife edge and once thats achieved i can put a small radius on.

and cleaned the old wheels whilst waiting for the filler to dry between coats

do u think i should keep with these of get some lenso bsx wheels or ronnel LS wheels both baskets black to contrast against the candy white.  the cups need 2 new tyres.

update 07/06/08

been busy at the car again, started on the engine bay and then decided to give it a break for a while and took off all the paint from the sills to find lots of rust and a hole but all together no so bad so ive a little repair and thats it. painted the other with under seal and stone chip straight to the metal ready for painting

starting to get a nice edge on the bulkhead now
