project derv!! winter run around.

hey guys and girls, managed to save this theother day, the guy who owned it bought most of the panels to repair it but lost interest, so he offered it to me for a very good price, its started its life off as a 1.3 but its soon to be either a 1.6 TD or a 1.9 TD as its going to be a winter run around it needs to cheap and chearfull to run!! the plan is to do the panelwork and leave it standard apart from the engine and wheels, heres a few pics of the car now.



i got a brand new VAG bonnet, hadrian front panel, rear arches with it, the original wings are in good shape, it needs a tailgate due to a tractor reversing into it last week!! it could do with a drivers door but it is repairable.
so if anyones got either some outer sills or a good tailgate kicking round they want rid off please let me know.

well ive got my engine, its a 1.9TD AAZ engine that currently resides under the bonet of a vento!! picked it up today, its got a water leak at the back of the block (looks like a core plug) but nothing i cant sort out, sounds good starts good, the engine looks like a good one, no oil leaks either!! so the vento is coming in tomorrow to sort the water leak out and then  i can run it up to temp to check its ok then its coming out. more tomorrow…………

hi all, had a busy afternoon today!! thought i would get the derv project into the workshop and have a proper look at what im up against! overall its not to bad, both rear arches, front panel and a few small patches on both sills and on the door hinge behind the wing and a small patch inthe inner wing drivers side, so i set about making a start so i cut this off!!

then once dressed back and ground off i thought i would try the new panel i had for size,

and tried the wings on to see if they lined up

so it all got spot welded on and im quite happy with the result! one major headache out of the way, just got to grind back a few welds to make them smooth and its job done. also got my engine on the weekend too, 1.9TD AAZ code from a vento

its looking tidy now mate ya need to get some pics of what else ya been doing to it... and i need to sort out a new camera so i can update my thread..

Well here's a few pics of last nights progress, managed to get the fuel tank out, prepped and painted it black, cleaned the floor of the loose umderseal and dirt and stonechipped the rear end from the rear of the floorpan to the rear valance, as it's guna be a winter car I thought I would give it some extra protecting. looking good buddy. this is all it needs….subtle paint job, standard kit and slam it on some banded steels!  you know it makes sense

cool little project, AAZ in there will be pretty quick - a friend of mine put one in a caddy, went really well!!

also, i have a tailgate in pretty good nick, a few small rust spots, but nothing major..

mr-fluff, i know it makes sense, no wild bodykit on the one, just standard wheelarches,standard bumpers, slammed on coilovers, and some 13 inch 8J wellers!

ive also had my rear arch repair panels arrive yesterday so hopfully there guna get fitted tomorrow, and guna get the sill and door hinge welded up and get the underside all stonchipped and refit the tank and get the new pipes made up. guna have a busy day!! more progress pics tomorrow……

spent a bit more time on the golf yesterday, got one of the rear arches done, just needs filling and priming im still waiting for my new engine mounts to turn up too as soon as they do i can get the lump in and start making my downpipe and running the wiring, still undecided on wheels, thinking along the route of banded steels?? nothing flash but they gota look PHAT!!

well bit of an update i spose,
the car has made it into the workshop for some serious work this weekend, plans are, get fuel pipes finished, tank back in, engine and box in (got my mounts now) brake servo linkage in, make my downpipe, and i might even get it running this weekend so we dont have to keep pushing it into the workshop everytime, its got no brakes or nothing on it apart from a handbrake so should be entertaining driving it out monday morning!! if anyone is passing the garage over the weekend pop in for a chat…….

Did you overlap the rear arch?

Great effort mate ,especially the fact that I drive an oil burner myself [1.9 TDI 1Z Engine] keep up the good progress and I will certainly looking in on this project

no I have joddled the edge of the new panel and tucked it behind the bodywork, makes life much easier when fitting panels to make a step in the new panel and overlap it minimal filler required too!!

Ah thats a good idea. Will do that with mine maybe. Looks like it would be easier to make a neat job doing it that way. cheers

Hi all, just a small update thought yesterday would be a good day to tackle the wiring on the dervish and Couldn't beleave it pluged everything in and everything works! It even turns and fires on the key! I also got my fuel tank and lines fitted yesterday, got the engine mount sorted and sorted the Clutch cable hole that somone had Bodged before!
TODAY'S  AGENDA
plump in fuel filter, plump in cooling system, fit driveshafts, wire up heater plugs, tidy up engine bay loom, remove 4 speed gear linkage and mabye plumb up my brakes!! And fit servo and master cylinder. Heres a few pics of today's progress

slow progress today, got the heater plugs wired up to the timer relay and managed to get the old choke light to be my glow plug light, i also tried to plumb in my radiator and heater, only to realise that the old 1.3 rad had the pipes on the wrong end so in turn none of the hose's fit!! so i went on hunt through my boxes of bits and managed to find a set of gti rad hose's, all i need is a gti rad and cooling fan and a header tank and i can fill it with water! also dug out the gti hubs and calipers i had hiding under the bench and got them ready to go on. more progress soon
