Project advice please?!

Hi guys,

This is the year I finally get the car I've always wanted, in summer I'm buying my mk1, is there any advice you guys n gals could give me about whats a good condition for a project car? as it won't have to be on the road till february 2013, as I've seen a few decent project cars for about £1200/1500 but I'm just a little unsure what condition is good for 'the new guy', I'm going to make it pretty decent spec in the time I have aswell, For the whole project I have a budget of about £6000/8000

Basically Any input would be much appreciated guys!

Thankyou for reading.

What you thinking of doing? I think really the best start if your thinking of going all out would be a soild shell to build up from so save hassel on welding and all that. Seen a few about for less that what your starting price was but depends on what your thinking of doing.

I haven't quite made my mind up on exactly what I'm doing with it, I plan on customising it quite a bit though, thanks by the way, much appreciated.

If lot's of customising then just a solid shell really then, one went locally to me for £300 which is very very very cheap to be honest but seen many shells for around £800/£900 in really good solid condition just right for a project. Keep an eye on e-bay + in here.

The Better Body Work the better really.

Common Places for rust you want t watch out for.

1. Sills
2. Wheel Arches
3. Doors ( at the Bottoms)

It is quite common to get Rusty Filler Neck pipes and poor brakes, but its the body work that will cost the most to sort out if you are thinking of modifying it too a nice standard  :D
