Orange Cabby Project!!! With Pics :) UPDATED!!!

Hey everyone bought this orange shell a few days ago, basically it came with a 1.8i kr engine and gearbox thats done 68,000 miles, no rust or rot, loads of random bits in it and thats it really,

Anyway got a few small bits done and ill update each stage as i go along so let me know what you think and enjoy :)

THIS IS HOW I GOT IT:
DULL, FULL OF PARTS THAT GO GOD KNOWS WHERE AND SAT ONE THE FLOOR WITH NO SUSPENSION, SO BASICALLY A BARE SHELL AS YOU CAN SEE.

OK SO AFTER I GOT IT HOME I STARTED ON SOME SMALL BITS TO GET IT GOING, FITTED REAR LIGHTS AND NUMBER PLATE (YET TO BE TRANSFERED) AND GAVE IT A GOOD WASH, I THINK THE PAINTWORK CAME UP NICE :)

THEN I GOT THE HEADLIGHTS, NUMBER PLATE LIGHTS, FOG LIGHT, REAR SUSPENSION FITTED AND PUT A WHEEL ON TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE :)

THATS IT UP TO NOW BUT ILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED ON HOW ITS GOING :)

that paint is suffering from serious orange peel mate.
i'd sort that before fitting anything else to in as you'll need to pull the bumpers and go roundthe lights etc.

get some g4 and a mop (you can do it by hand but it's hard work) and rub it back before giving it a damn good coat of polish and wax.
you won't get rid of it completely but it will look a lot better.

Still going to do your white one as well, or is this your priority?

to get rid of the orange peel effect you really need to wet flat it to get it smooth then get out the cutting compound to bring back the shine.

But be careful as you don't want to go through the paint!

Or leave it as is to add to the satsuma look LOL

Had a look when i went over yesterday and luckily its not laquered, so just needs a good wet sand and polish.

in that case wet sand and then g4 followed by a damn good polish as that man up there said.

yeah think i might have a bash at it myself and just do a panel at a time and see how it goes,

jay09 - what were the names of those products for the job you was showing me and where can i get them, and was it:

  1. wet sand
  2. seal
  3. polish????

cheers

Jay
1-Wet and dry
2-Polish
3-Seal the paintwork
4-Wax
Not sure if any of the products that i showed you are available in the shops so you'll have to get them online. Like i said you won't be able to get the wet sand marks out by hand so you need a machine. If you are ok until tomorrow i'll get you a list of stuff and places to get them.
Or you can stop eyeing those ats alloys up and get me to do it

I'd say a couple of days work Jay, not a quick job. Probably a day wet sanding and a day polishing, then you've got protection on top of that but you could do that yourself as i presume you'll be buying yourself some wax etc.
If you really want me to do it we can work something out. I have a paint thickness gauge so will would check out the paintwork before i did anything. Always happy to help out a fellow mk1 owner.
