new to the forum, 1st mk1 golf!
Hi, Im Lewis, Was a die hard mini fan for most of my life, until the scene got a little too repatative and boring, same old cars, same old faces etc so fancied a change, which is where my 1983 mk1 5 door golf comes into play, cost me the grand sum of £350, and is extremely solid and original, the only things wrong that i know of so far is the engine runs rough, and the drivers wing has rusted at the bottom, underneath though and nearly everywhere you look there is waxoyl! someone must of loved this car at some point! anyway here are some pics..
and one of it next to my mini clubman van
my plans are to keep it very simple, lower it a fair bit, but keep the height at a reasonable level, maybe some wider wheels, and a damn good polish, thats about it really! thanks for looking!

im more than happy with it! apart from the running issues, and for the price i paid, i got a good deal! think the poor running is down to a shoddy new condensor, a mate had a mini that ran exactly the same, changed the condensor and it ran fine after that, so will have to investigate further. just need to save some monies to get the project started! cant wait to get stuck in and get her back on the road!

Nothing wrong with 1.3s!
I have a 1.3 driver and it's brilliant!
Are you coming to the AGM at the weekend?

would love to go, but got a family bbq to attend! boo!! still though, if i could of made it, i would of had to go in my mini van, as the golf id off the road at the moment (dont suppose anyone could help me get the engine running right? or at least come and let me know what you think could be up with it?) i usually just replace an engine if it aint running right, but this is my 1st golf, so not a clue where to start lol
plans for it are to keep it very simple, very clean, and semi standard looking, lowered a little, maybe some slightly wider wheels, and thats about it tbh, prefer the clean looks than ott styling

picked up a haynes manual for £3 off ebay, which was nice lol still not running right, if at all, gonna check in the petrol tank and see how its looking in there (i know the filler neck is rusted through near the top) so gonna see how the filter and the tank internals are looking and if its full of crud im guessing a blocked carb… we shall see!
