My Third Golf and hoping this time lucky ! ! ! Contd

Hi all and BiG Thanks! 2 weeks of owning my Golf Cab and with great advice off this site I have had much success.
 
1. 2nd hand heater switch Perfect now have blowers.
2. New WaterPump No more overheating, whilst their had new Cam belt put on.
3. Expansion Tank old one had fatigue/ split issues.
4. New Exhaust bracket no more being stared at in Traffic.
5. Ruberoid/Damp coarse small pieces evosticked between layers in roof lining no more wet bum.
6. Carb cleaned and replaced intake hose from scrap yard, car running smoother
7. Loads of scrubbing and cleaning 95% of moss removed!

Paid ?450 for car and done all of above for under ?100

Jobs on list maybe advice needed:
1. New bulb for Clocks/ Speedo, should be simple.
2. Have a issue sometimes if hot have to crank bottom pulley to start, suspect ignition, def starter bit scratchy.
3. One new tyre needed.
4. Windssccrreenn wippeerrss veryy sloooww?
5. Only getting about 52 add 10 (See 6.) miles out of ?12 is that good or might be running a tad rich?
6. New speedo cable needed or oil old one doing 38mph when clock says 30mph.
7. Wire up 3 Dial Gauges up as no life their at all?
8. Plastic trim missing from back of hood so boot gets wet?
9. Convince my wife it is safe for kids to travel in.


Prob enough info for now but I am enjoying it and have become attached to her, wife has named her 'Christine' he he he

This chapter could becoming to a end, for my sanity and deciding that I am not looking to make her indoors an ex I could end up with a mk3 8O  :

Pheww still have my golf cab but maybe thinking she may need a winters rest and hours more then money spent on her.
So viewing a Citroen AX tomorrow to get me to and from work.
Work to do:
Sort out that enoying heat = no start.
1. Going to try and put a mk3 rad and fan on and a overide switch for short stops. Does this sound like a good idea?
2. One Tyre simple enough.
3. Replace Starter and alternator. (donation from previous Owner)
4. Starter Solenoid, (might replace)
5. Fix Drivers seat (mum is darning queen of england).
6. Clean up Hood Metal work (Hamerite)
Good Clean up under Bonnet.
Remove Boot and Rub down and respray as bubbling on leading edge.

Pointers if any of my ideas sound crazy!

A sad day my mk1 refused to start ! Dead as a doodoo! Not sure if fair to say this but I thought vw's were reliable. Well mine has not been, in fact its been very unrealiable. ?450 for Car a good ?150 spent and towed away today and yet to get the bill for repairs, only had 2 weeks!
I hate to say this but if over ?100 I will be scrapping it as a dead project. Seems a shame but fighting a losing battle!

Great success today Hood Cover, fuse cluster, and a few other bits ?10. 2nd hand starter donation paying for fitting? So hoping back on the road tomorrow. It has to the end of September to prove itself.
Wife can see that I really want to keep it so at the end of the day it will be my decision which sounds good to me!

Decided on new starter ?150 so cars new total is ?750
Saccrificed wolfsburg s/wheel hope ?70 + speedo/clock replacment hope ?30 both on ebay. Plus did a car boot ?70.
?750 - ?170 = ?580 in my books my car has a value of!

Will not be getting car back until 26th Pay Day  

I guess these cars follow a pattern, what is due next!

Also never done this with a car before, why do I feel so attached to this car and why have I not given up !

So far I am guessing this story runs true of a car that has only done about 200 miles in 6 months, been stood up jealously looking at previous owners Audi TT on the drive.

Wipers ! read a post on here it can be a bad earth on wiper motor so 1st thing I will do when I get it back, quirkly this can effect starting!

Radiator from local partco ?47 + vat is that a good price.

So car now Value of ?670 umm still thinking okay, sorry guys but membership is looking very unlikly this month best use that ?15 to feed myself for the month!
