My New GTi

Last thursday me and my mate went on an all day road trip to pick up my New GTI, (pics up later)

On first attemps of driving i did think the brakes could of done with renewing, but after a few days i have got used to them and them dont seem at all too bad, just not quite as good as an everyday modern car.

My one question thou is with the gear box, all gears are ok barring 1st and 5th which are sometime a little hard to find, and it grinds going into reverse, has any one any ideas as to what would be best for it???

Firstly don't panic.  It's more than likely not serious it's normally the gearlinkage needing renewal.  It'll cost ?11-?17 to sort and a day of your time.  I done mine a few months ago and it's spot on now.  Read this guide (it's a sticky in the Running Gear section on this site):-

Please mark where the spline bit sits (near the front of the engine) as you'll need to line it up after renewal.  If you don't get it right you'll have problems selecting gears.

It really is simple though so don't let that put you off.  It's good to have a bit of experience and I was chuffed when I done mine

I love these forums, you always get your answer back on minutes lol, i do have a lot of experiance with cars, but nothing to this age, and i thort it best to ask on here first before i start ripping it to pieces, as i fort this may just be a common problem with these?????

There is also a slight oil leak somewhere, i will be invistigating that tonight, also when it is running, it slighlty spits oil onto the manifold, so ordered a new rocker cover gasket from VW  :D

The oil spitting probablyis the rocker cover gasket…. another cheap fix

Thanks for your comments guys, i saw this for sale and i just had to have it, been lookiin for a while now and this was by far my favourite :D , i havent really got loads ands loads planned for it, i just want to smarten it up as it is now, there is odd bit and bat that needs doin, the engine will be coming out and having a proper service, dash is reallllly rately, it already has mk2 leathers in, will have to get the rear seats done 2 match.

Engine is already cam'd i think cos it dont half shift and has a slighlty funy idle, also got a 421 manifold

Slight bit of rust here and there, but nothing major and the chassi is fantastic  :D

Then going to give it a really good valet and detail through my own company
