Today I became the proud ower of a 1982 Black GTI with a 9a transplant. Its spot on, exactly what ive been looking for, just need to do a couple of bits to it. But im pretty much in love with it.

A few pictures for you :) (my camera skills leave a lot to be desired)

Yes, this was on piston heads.

The rims are off a clio, I think. I'm not going to change them anytime soon, I really like them :)

Its getting another good clean today, probably will everyday of its life now haha.

looks nice.  like the rims as they are, turbines look nice on a mk1.  Think the rear needs to come down a touch though.

Couple of things on the to-do list

-Rattle hunting
-Sorting out the exhaust. Its a Supersprint and is pretty loud. Is there anything I can do to make it a bit quieter?

Mainly been enjoying it. Its a complete beast :)

Your car looks very nice.  It used to be owned by someone who was friends with the guys at Jtech in Reading.

Here it is at Brands Hatch in Oct 09

& in April

Cheers for the history on it :P The guy who sold it to me was a VAG mechanic. It was nice to have a conversation with someone who absolutely loves VWs. (No-one around here is obsesed like me :( )

Just sorting through little niggly problems at the moment. These include -

1. Finding why it isn't a fan of cold starts (takes a fair bit), just doing tests on the TTS and the CSV.

2. Fixing a leaky sunroof.

3. Diagnosing why the alternator only charges the battery at 3000+ revs.

(any help with the later would be appreciated)

It's all tucked up in the garage at the moment, thought i'd take a leaf out of the previous owners book. Apparently its been living in the garage and only used in nice weather. Makes me feel a little bad as it will be seeing daily driver usage, apart from in really bad weather :O

Very nice, looks really tidy! Yeah gotta love the 16v :D

As for the alternator, I'm not too sure, but alot of people replace the regulator on the back of the alternator, its a small part screwed on I think. I'm sure someone on here will know

Any future plans after fixing those problems?

Good luck with it!

Pete.

Cheers :)

In the long run im looking at doing the body work - getting a few little dints sorted and maybe a respray. There is also a small hole on one of the back arches, near the towing eye. Its only on the outer skin though, so i'm hoping to get it welded and prepped wont cost too much. It seems very sound, but I get really paranoid, so at some point it will be completely re done :)

But in the imidiate future, im just enjoying it. Much to the disappointment of my other car, im sure. There is such a huge difference going from a 1.8 carb, to a 2.0 16v :P It's an insane car. It also a lot more fun than my dads merc s500, which I could swear seems slower, but that could just be because you're much more back to basics in a MK1.

Yeah it looks really tidy, you will always find something to sort out on it   Sounds really solid rust wise to.

Yeah I know what you mean, my old man's 430hp Skyline is pretty damn quick, but there is something about the mk1 that you just can't beat   I'm running a rebuilt 1800 kr on kjet, with 4 branch and lightened flywheel, arbs etc, and off the line, and around twistys its so much fun!

Pete.
