My mk1 cabrio project

Hi all

thought i would post some pics of my cabrio project.  Hopefully it will be on the road soon and then in great condition by next summer.

Would appreciate and advice and suggestions as this is the first golf or cabrio i have ever owned.

This is how is was displayed on ebay:

As it is at the moment. (not much different).. lol

As you can see it now has no bumper, that is because the bloke i bought it off had taken it off for some reason and lost all the bolts etc..  Also missing some side trim and a spat.  He had no clue where they are either.

Can was advertised as having a blown head gasket but turned out to be an oil cooler.  And thanks to advice on here and a packet of washing powder that is all sorted. lol

It is currently misfiring slightly/not ticking over properly and the engine cuts out when you rev it.  Which i am thinking could be a number of issues, not least the ignition leads seem to be made up from several sets.

Anyway, thats my cabrio project.

Thanks

You've got your work cut out there mate although to be honest it looks pretty sound and just in need of some TLC!

You got any major plans in mind for it or are yu just looking to get it back to its former glory?

My plan at the moment is just to get it on the road so i can sell my gfs ford ka, which will leave us in a full vw household.

Am thinking of changing the colour but all depends on how my attemps at repairing the patches goes.  Have got a different interior that i am thinking of putting in.  Was given a full set of mk4 seats and was going to modify them, or consider putting them in my other project (69 beetle).  Would be nice to have seats without a hole as the drivers seat in the current golf seats has one of the bolsters worn, and it wont hold position heightwise when you sit on it.

Have been told its already been lowered but have nothing to compare it against. lol.  Am going to change the front discs and pads as it hasnt been used for a while.

Shame it is now heading towards the winter…

Good on you for saving her, looks solid enough though, and a good service and clean, and she will look 100 X better.

Keep us posted!.

Cleaned pretty well. Not as big a project as some take on so you should be OK.

Well done for saving another Mk1

I would think you'd be able to get the missing bolts/clips from Crazyquiff.

You say you're planning to replace the interior. What do you plan to do with the white? If its in fair nick I may be interested depending on your price. No rush though  8)

Look forward to seeing your progress.
